Breeding Ocellaris Clowns - My unexpected attempt!

Good luck with the tile placement. I put the tile exactly where they were laying their eggs right under the nem. and BAM :eek2: she started laying them above the nem. Thats just not right :rolleye1: With that said it's good to have a back up plan, because mine only laid eggs on the tile once so far, and this batch she laid them above the nem. again. BTW great pics keep them coming.

I saw a different kind of larvae catcher design on U-tube so I'm going to run with that idea and try to come up with something as good or better. At this point I have nothing to lose. Also, I'm thinking that if my larvae catcher works, it will allow the eggs to go full term without interuption. It's worth a shot!

Nice pictures Subman. I'm going to buy a EF100 for my Canon. Mine layed eggs yesterday too. We may be on the same schedule now.. Mine have always hatched in 8 days. How many days for yours?

Do you have the link to the catcher?

That is exactly what mine did; until she started to get so upset with the tile around "her space" that she started to actually damage her mouth in trying to move it. So i set up the snagger and solved that problem.

NO, not with that picture.

It may be easier to place a tile there now that it is vertical!

Ok FB, this one's for you! Hope this clears up the egg location delema! LOL Oh, by the way... NOW can you count them for me? :D

I can't really tell how it works. Do you understand it?

FB
Yes. (sort of... if I'm seeing it correctly) I believe it's on the same principle as a protein skimmer and an undergravel filter. It uses the lift of air bubbles in a tube to create suction. In his video, it looks like the bubbles keep the (in his case, shrimp) at the surface and the overflow water comes off the side of the tube and runs back into the tank, kind of like a protein skimmer.

My design will incorporate the rubbermaid box design like Dazed's but not only will I have a small slit at the top edge for surface critters, I will be using an undergravel air lift tube (with the air) that goes in through the bottom of the box and runs down to just above where the eggs are. There will be screens at both the bottom of the tube opening and on the side opening of the box to keep out preditors. I will also use a "moonlight" LED shining on the tube from inside the box to create "hopefully" a fiber optic effect and illuminate the end of the tube. I'll post pics when it's ready.

Yes mine are on a tile. Have fun with your fish vac. I'll be asleep in bed while you are messing with it lol :)

If my "fish vac" design works properly, I won't have to babysit it. Just set it up and wake up in the morning to a bunch of larvae... Hey, It's my dream!!! LOL

Thanks. I hope it works too! I don't think I can do another "no sleep" marathon watching the tank for days! By the way, did you get my PM yesterday?

The Gobies are Back!!!

The Gobies are Back!!!

Ok folks, I'm getting a little off topic here for a moment. My Yellowhead Sleeper Gobies just laid their second batch of eggs. The last batch a couple of weeks ago was a failure due to me not having S-Strain Rotifers. They only made it 3 days. :( From what I've read, the ONLY thing they can and will eat is the S-strain. I got my shipment of live rots Thursday so I'm ready this time! Here's a couple of pics (from the underside of their cave.)

I didn't get your PM. I'll go check now. Thats cool you got another nest. I'd love to see a few hundred gobies in a tank :)

Thanks FB! I love this new lens! I can't believe I waited this long to get one! I never knew the kind of shots I was missing until now!

Here's an odd question??? If my rotifer cultures smell like DEATH, should I assume they are dead? I don't have any type of magnification yet to see what's going on with them.

Hmm. Mine don't smell... You may have to do a big water change. They will usually come back. Is there stuff floating in the water column?
It should look like dusty water.
