Breeding Ocellaris Clowns - My unexpected attempt!

My tank runs around 77-80. Is this still sufficient? I'm battling a huge hair algae problem again so I don't want my temp running too high. My Rotifer cultures and soon to be breeding tanks are all in the closet with my filtration equipment and a server. Those stay around 75-76 with no heaters. Is this still good? I have a vent fan in the closet to keep it cool. I could easily raise the temp in the closet by turning off the vent fan but then the temp skyrockets to 82+ and the room will smell like fish.

Which setup? The cultures in the closet? Don't know yet I've only had them going for a little over a week now. However, because of all the equipment in there MH light on frags, recirc pump and a computer server with 16 drive bays keeps that room VERY Toasty! When I had the room thermometer on the shelf above the server, it was hitting over 90 deg! On the shelf level to it I'm getting over 80 without the vent fan on and 75 with it on. The fan is a 150 cfm bath fan venting outside and runs 24/7 as does the server. Warmth is never a problem in there!

The shelf with the tank labeled "not used" is where I'm keeping my cultures now. That's my little "Laboratory" LOL

I was thinking the same thing.
 
Hence 150 cfm's of air flow coming in directly to the right of the sump and wisks it out away from the server across the room (closet). Fan is in ceiling completely on opposite side of server... I do get that comment though from a lot of people... "water and a server???" LOL :)
 
(This is my theory, though I don't claim it to be the best) The salt water isn't a problem because it's lower than the server and the airflow from the side will keep airborn salt vapor (if there is any) away from it. The only one that could potentially be a problem is the RO/DI storage that sits above it if it ruptures and creates a big spash. I have been thinking of relocating it further away from the server and making a spash shield around it. I live in a condo and have very limited space otherwise this would be a much different setup. I have water sensors on in the room to detect any water and an alarm will sound and the computer system on the tank will send an email to my phone with any alerts. So far, no problems... knock on wood!:hammer:

Same here. I am afraid to have a nice metal door knob in the same room as a salt tank let alone high end computer equipment within inches of the source. Just as an example, in my last house when we moved the couch we found that saltwater evap had rusted out the cool air return for the furnace and the return was over 6 feet away from the tank. I know everyone says that evap is only H2O, but man that was a bunch of rust for just high humidity.... and that wasn't near 90 degrees.
 
Ok, I "FINALY" had a successful hatch last night! Spent almost 5 hours till 4am catching them, but for the most part, successful! :) Have a question though... Most of them hang in groups at the rear of the tank (closest to the wall) and some/many hang near the surface... is this normal? I'll be posting pics in a little while.
 
:fish1: :dance: :celeb2: :beer: Ok, here they are... My third batch of Clowns and HOPEFULLY my first SUCCESSFUL batch! I have two 5.5 gal tanks, clowns on left, S-Rots on right. If anyone notices anything wrong in these pictures, please let me know. I really don't want to mess this up this time! :hmm5: :spin2:

Because I have so many S-Rots still swimming in with the clowns, I've been mixing up some nanochloropsis paste and adding it to my clown tank to feed the Rots in there as well as in the culture tank.

Good job collecting the larvae.

I may have missed it but how long have those larvae been in the tank with rotifers. From the picture it does not appear as if any of them are eating. If the picture was taken just after you put them in the tank that would explain it. Do you have a more recent picture. You should see a definite round buldge in the mid section when they are eating.

Here's some "day 2" shots that I just took. This is approximately 18 hours after they hatched. I can see a bulge in some but not in others.... hmmmm.... any suggestions???

GREAT JOB!!!. This is the key to success. As for the ones not eating try yelling at them ;)

The ones not eating will most likely perish. Could be several reasons why they are not eating.

Some of the reasons could be transfer damage, not enough rotifers, poor eyesight, they can't figure out how to hunt. Who knows really. Joyce says they should not have to swim more than an inch to bump into a rotifer.

I'm sure some are just not viable enough to eat.

If you keep the rotifer density high you should get all the ones you can!
