Brian's 270 Starphire

How many reflectors will you have?

You could mount the reflectors to a piece of wood/metal and mount the wood/metal to the rollers so they all move together...

Looks like it's coming along nicely Brian! Can't wait to see the tank.

Thanks David, I can't wait to see it too. I was hoping for pics but the bottom of the tank still hasn't gone though the kilm. They have everything else ready but can't start to put it together until they get the bottom back.

Good stuff Brian. What ballasts are you going to run?

I will be running 3 400w blueline e-ballast. I might go down to 250w down the road, but for now thats what I have.

Ian- I have three reflectors. I was hoping on have them all on there own rollers so they could move independenty. This would allow me to move just one if it was in the way.

I have thought of adding a cable to the socket and hooking it the the back of the canopy. I could just remove it if I need to move the reflector. I'll have a better idea if that will work once the canopy is done.

I have power! Today I had 2 20 AMP lines run though my finished ceiling, though 5 rooms. They ran 130 ft of wire and it didn't look easy. Heres the start of the line where the tank will be. They drilled a 1.5" hole the feed the line in.

The line was fished though a bulkhead and out an existing outlet.

Here a diagram of how the line was run.

After it was all done there was 3 small holes. 2 in the bulkhead and one behind a closet door. Here's one the the holes that still need to be muded up.

...and the finished outlets.

A big thanks to my buddy Scott and his partner Scott. They did a great job!

Wow, very nice Brian! When is that tank arriving?

I'm hoping next week. I ordered it on 5/29 and Derek told me 6-8 weeks. Next week will be the 8th week. Last week when I called they told me that there about two weeks from finishing it. I plan to call Derek tomorrow to find out.

keep the pics comig im sure its going to be an awsome build,

Thanks

Well a little update. Miracles has told me the tank will be done next week! :) I am getting plans together to have it shipped soon. I can't have i shipped to my house because I live on a dead end street, so there will be a little more planing for the delivery.

I was able to finish the stand face and canopy today.... well almost still need to laminate it this weekend and finish all the doors.

Here is the frame work of the canopy. There will be four doors in the front, two for each opening.

IMG_1172.jpg

The side also open up with a push door. There are hings inside that hold the door in place.

I have a 1 3/4" strip finishing the facing the front corner so that I can add a finish edge to the front pane. This will be finished with 1 3/4" laminate band striping ( the stuff they face the bottom of counter tops).

IMG_1167.jpg

One of the corner didn't come out that well, so I plan to use some dura-glass to make it flush with the door.

As mention before I plan on using pocket door rail for a light mover. I have to say it worked out better than I thought. Here is the rail mounted to the top of the canopy. I cut i 5" short so I could roll the reflectors out for cleaning if needed.

I had some issue with the reflector tilting in testing. The problem was solve by adding two 2x2" to the side of the support. As you can see the reflector sit pretty level.

Here's a better pic of how the roller sit.

Well nothing to fancy, but here is the face of the stand. The doors on the side are big enough to slide my sump in and out if needed. It will be removable if need but I don't see it happening to often. It will be laminated like the canopy.

There is a 1 3/4' lip that will run around the tank. This will hide the foam board that the tank will sit on plus give me a nice finished edge.

Here's this weekend project.

Thanks Scott, I'm sure you'll be over to see it soon enough. Thanks again for holding all my stuff awhile I finish this up. It should be soon as you know. :D

Got some goodies today, all the plumbing from usplastics and BRS. I have to say usplastics has some of the fastest shipping I have seen. I ordered it yesterday and got it today by ground shipping! I hope to get my sump back soon so I can get some of the plumbing done.
