How does this method differ from zeovit in your experience?

Its not as aggressive. But IMO achieve the same results.

IMHO, more expensive and less effective than ZEOvit....

How could it be more expensive?

Maybe im missing something here. I add MB7 and vodka. Cost is pennies a day.

Hi, I'm going to be starting my new system from scratch next week. It will not have any live rock, only dead base rock and very little at that. About 40-50 pounds on a 120 gallon.

I already have MB7, Reef Biofuel and zeo stones with a reactor. How should I start doing this? How long will the cycle take? I've heard that I can put in fish and corals in as little as two weeks.

Thanks

First i would take the rock out side and blast it with a graden hose. get into all the nooks and crannies.
Then I would put the dead rock in a container. Use the skimmer on it. Add plenty of MB7 and Vodka. I mean like a cup of vodka :) If there are any nutrients in the rock you will know soon enough.

One of the concerns of overdosing vodka is oxygen. The bacteria can consume all the oxygen from the water killing everything in the tank. Since this is just base rock you wont have that concern and can add all the vodka you want. This will create a huge amount of bacteria in a short time. Im talking a layer of scum an inch think on the surface.

I know cause ive seen it with my own eyes. I used cheap salt...

By next week you will have clean rock.

Sounds like a great way to cure/cook base rock. But my rock is already pretty clean, I used muriatic acid and clorox to clean it up

The tank will set up next week, maybe I could start doing this in the mean time.

I am not exactly sure where the whole zeovit being less expensive than bw started once you add the supplements . the cost is about 1/4 that of zeovit.

As for being more effective? BW hasnt been in the game as long and there are more mature tanks running zeovit compared to BW .

Stony how do you come to that conclusion that BW is more money?

BW is quite a bit less expensive than zeovit or Fauna marin. I switched to BW neo zeo products bac in March and have been very happy with it. I was dosing quite a few different things , but have settled on the zeolites, micro bacter 7, bio fuel, aminos, vit c, restor, potassion, lugols, and Koral color.

I have been running an ULNS, started with FM Ultralith, for over two years now on my system. I run a total water volume of roughly 240+ gallons. Tank volume total is 290g. I have no experience with Zeovit at all or any of their products, nor have I ever used prodibio. But I can say that I am very pleased with not only the products of Brightwell, but also the availability of the products, the cost of them, and the customer support from Chris Brightwell himself is second to none. Here is a picture from about 2 or 3 months ago of my display tank(125g).

sooo anyone want to make a chart of what BW product is the equal to zeovit .

Muzz how is vit c working for you? I still need to pick that up , and potassium aaand mag. I have some pohls xtra but once i run out I will get koral color

The Vitamarin C works well and quickly. It definitely causes almost immediate polyp extension. To make sure that it was the supplements helping, and not just corals adjusting colors, I have slowed down on dosages and then ramped up dosages. When I slow down, colors fade fairly rapidly, when I ramp up the dosings, colors come back fairly quickly. So I would say that they work very well.

The Potassion....I dose on the conservative side since I do not have a K test kit. I do not want to overdose. But if I see my blue or purple corals start to "dull", I will add extra potassion and the color will come back within a few days, or I should say darken as the color never fully left.

I do many of my dosings now based on how my corals look and act. I will dose above recommended dosing levels, and will dose below them as well. Everything in my tank has been grown from small frags except for two pieces. One is the green frogspawn on the right and the other is the bright green montipora in the middle. So over the years, I have learned what the corals look lilke when happy or when ticked off.

I am on week five of the neozeo system with good results so fare. Last week I started seeing patches of rust colored something on the sand. I am guessing they are diatom. Anyone else experience that?

What's new in the neozeo community? No new updates on the Brightwell website. How is the new neozeo salt doing for anyone who is using it?

gmpower262 I would say the rust color is a bacterial bloom. Try reducing the biofuel a little.

Same here, starting week five tomorrow and seeing rust colored patches on glass and sand. What should I do? Should I lower the Bio Fuel dose?

Could be diatoms or some type of turf algae. I'm not running the zeolite systems, but I started noticing this with my Turf Scrubber system. Upon closer inspection, it looks very similar to the brown turf algae on the glass the scrubber... I may be nuts though....:crazy1:

Does BW still make the zeolite rocks? My LFS no longer carries them and they are not included in the product list on the BW website... is this cause for concern?

thanks,

sam
