Brightwell Aquatics "Two Thumbs up!!!"

and also learn to appreciate the difficult of growing out a 10" Oregon tort over a 20" leather.

You are concerned that I do not understand that some reef creatures are harder to keep than others?

Randy I wish you just "dabbled" in creating coral foods you'd probably pioneer a new polymer that changed the whole hobby :)

there are many products out there that does not do what it claims, randy you put down brightwell are you jealous you dont own a large company such as brightwell. i happen to think zeovit is one of the biggest jokes out there and people snatch it up like its free.we all have differnt ways of achieving the goals to reef keeping some sucess
some failure. A company cant claim a compound in a product they sell and it not be in there ,unlike zeovit they dont tell whats in it at all.

Holy crap ... I have known Randy from the early days of compuserves fishnet.. Yea that is before the internet (dialup).. He has been aroud a long time and has done nothing but help people out and help advance this hobby. He has taken a few breaks here and there from posting but no one has helped people out more than Randy. He does it because he injoys this hobby.

I am concerned that you don't do it, not know it. :jester: I'm in it for the challenge and would have left hobby by now it softies is all I kept. BTW for the record I'm jealous of Zeovit, not Brightwell. :frog:

I'm not really taking it personal. But, what started as a testimony to brightwell's products turned into Randy listing products "that do not do what it claims". I just think it could have been a much more peaceful thread. no offense meant to you tee.

Wouldn't you want someone with the capability to determine the facts, and tell you if a product is BS? Or is it just me. :hmm2:

I keep lot's of sps including an oregon tort and lot's of leathers too. Couldn't do it half as well without Randy's help. For me he consistently and patiently provides clear reliable information on reef chemistry. The trouble with Brightwell and others who hype products is that they present obfuscatory gibberish, oftentimes, which makes it much harder to gain an understanding of useful facts and techniques for reef keeping. Directly confronting bad information and products is definitely a big plus and I thank those that do it with Randy and Boomer at the top of that list.

I thank Randy and Boomer for having best forum on RC.

I meant to start a new topic but found this more entertaining.

bright well aquatics

bright well aquatics

Has any one used bright well aquatics alk buffer. just wanted to see how it worked.

You mean the Alkalin8.3 ?

It is likely similar to many such commercial products. Buffers are easy to make and hard to mess up. I think baking soda may be a better choice since Chris lists borate in it which I do not think is desirable to a reef aquarium buffer. Some other companies also add it, but not all.

Corals use bicarbonate/carbonate. Why replace that with bicarbonate/carbonate plus borate? Depending on how much is there, it has the potential to build up and cloud the interpretation of total alkalinity kits.

I can keep the cal 440 mag 1300 but the alk only get it up to 8. Thats with 2 tsp of kent marine buffer at night tank is a 40 breeder with a 20 gallon sump

The pharmaceuticals I co-invented sell more than a BILLION dollars worth anually, and save hundreds of thousands of people from diseases.

No, I am not jealous of Chris Brightwell and his little hobby supply company. :D
But Brightwell has such pretty packaging...

No buffer is going to "work better" in that regard.

Have you tried adding more and seen what happens?

What target level are you aiming for?

I am trying for 9-10. I did not want to add to much and spike it. should i try 3 tsp for a couple days i test every day.

So in that size tank, a single teaspoon will boost alkalinity by about 1 dKH. If 2 teaspoons allows it to drop below where you'd like by the next day, then trying 3 is OK, but recognize that is a pretty big boost all at once (3 dKH). You might want to split it into 2 doses spaced out. :)
