Bringing back Rics from Florida

good to know... I plan on doing some scuba somewhere in FL in the near future... I sure wouldn't want to spoil the trip by picking up a souvenir

questions:
would FL be the place to go if I wanted to see vendors w/ a "rainbow" of colors?

and would it be cheaper buying directly (in person) from a FL vendor then say buying it in CA?

Sorry, It is totally legal to collect Florida ricordia It's the rock that not to be collected and is Illegal. The rock attached to the ricordia must be smaller than 0.5 in. Its is clearly listed on the link just posted for the Florida Fish & wildlife as long as you have a saltwater fishing licence which is about 25.00. NO HARD OR STONY CORALS CAN BE COLLECTED.

License Requirement: A Florida recreational saltwater fishing license (resident or non-resident, whichever is applicable).

Prohibited Species: All harvest is prohibited of the following species:
Live rock, Bahama starfish (Oreaster reticulatis), longspine urchin (Diadema antillarum), Venus sea fan (Gorgonia flabellum), common sea fan (Gorgonia ventalina), any hard or stony coral (Order Scleractinia), or any fire coral (Genus Millepora).

Bag Limit: Aggregate bag limit of 20 species (in any combination), of the species included in the Marine Life rule as listed below. Of those 20 species, no more than 5 may be angelfish, and no more than 6 may be colonies of octocorals (each colony or part thereof is included in the aggregate bag limit). The bag limit for plants listed in this rule is 1 gallon.

Soft corals - Any species of the Subclass Octocorallia, except sea fans Gorgonia
flabellum and Gorgonia ventalina.
Sea anemones - Any species of the Orders Actinaria, Zoanthidea, Corallimorpharia,

Sweet !!!Hope all is well in the tank! Just to give you a heads up You can get a florida fishing licesce online. I have collected many Fl ricordia while diving & been stopped by marine patrole with rics & zoos in my posession & never had a problem.

I had some shipped to me from FL priority mail from a collector and it took 2 days.
Both times they arrived looking great.
The first time it was even cold outside around 50 (my weatherbug was totally wrong) and I was worried but they were fine.

If packed well I'm sure they could survive 2-3 days travel.
I would pack them in a styro box or cooler if it was me.

wow, so its not necessary to have things shipped priority over night? cause I've been hit w/ that charge a few times and that really raises up the shipping costs:eek:

I ordered some zoas from the auction site, was trying for local pickup, however, that was not happening., upon tracking with UPS it turns out they were picked up about a half hour away. They didn't get delivered till 5pm the next day. It was hot as a firecracker in S. Florida that day, the zoanthids were cooked, they looked o.k. at first and over the next day they just fell apart. The seller shipped some more with a cold pack. was a bag of ice that melted over the shipping time, the zoas made it ok this time.If shipping were delayed a day, same thing, zoanthid soup.

so you can kill them

I am trying out a guy in Florida that is a diver and has the licance to collect ricordea. He said that he would sell me as many as I want. I am getting them in today. I ordered lots. You can get some from me if they are nice and they get here in one piece. I have to see what the final cost is but I think that they will be arround $10 ish per Rick.
