Bristle Worm

I found a 6" bristle worm in the display last night, Will the worm kill anything or is it OK to leave it in the tank? If it needs to be removed what is a good method to do this?

I will be intrigued to hear postings on the bristle worm. I have a couple of small ones. I have been given mixed advice. Do you know Bill Baker? I have inlaws in San Leon. Too small a place for strangers.

Carunculata is the one to avoid. All others are safe. (more or less) Will need a picture for one of the worm experts to give you a better idea on what you have. 95% likely that you have a beneficial detrivore living in your tank though.

bristle worms are supposed to be the best detritus eaters/clean up critters and i agree with this 100% but any worms that are 6"+ in my tank i do NOT trust with corals or my fish. if given the chance i'd pull it out, jmho.
i struggled with eunicid worms, given my fear of large creatures that come out at night in my tanks

I was just checking my octo tank, I have always has some bigger ones in there (6" or so). But I just saw one well over 12" long!!! Freaking me out. What is the best way to get that thing out of there???

i heard this from a fellow RC member. If you want to get rid of them you can put some shrimp pellets inside a small panty hose and when the worms go in their bristles get stuck in the hose... remove any hermits or snails that went in and dispose of your worms!

stupid question and story guys....if there are different kinds of bristle's do they all sting? I stupidly scooped up sand with my hand, and got stung by a good 6 incher! It turned real red, tingled ALOT, I ran it under water (don't know if that was bad or not) couldn't feel anything across my palm for a good twenty minutes! Guess I had to learn the hard way! =)
