yeah, well, your problem will be solved when this detached leg (arm?) grows disproportionally and yeah, it may take a day, a week, several months, but eventually it'll consume everything in its path, including you and as you scream in agony as the arm (leg?) squeezes the life outta you, and you'll wish you had been nicer to it and used a kinder description than "weirdo".

i'm not kidding. i know these things.

EDIT: Yep, the leg went for the shrimp! This proves that they're fully capable of sight and smell. Amazing!

For those that can't see the video, the arm came and grabbed ahold of the piece of shrimp. So yes, it is still very much alive. I thought back and I moved the rocks around on Friday afternoon. So it has been 4 full days since being separated from the rest of the body

I went a checked on it, and it had discarded the shrimp, but attempted to do something with it for 20 minutes or so

that is officially one of the creepiest thing i have ever seen and now I'M gonna have nightmares!!

Very strange...
Perhaps your star was a mutant that had some organs off-center enough that they were in the arm? Because that is definitely not normal.

Just FYI, brittle stars and starfish are in completely different classes. They are no more alike than mammals and reptiles.

It's still alive this morning. I also found another piece of an arm that I guess got cut off too last night and put it in the other tank. It gets creepier everyone, the legs found each other. What is going on?! This is getting out of control

i was thinking more along the lines of a "lake placid" sorta thing. you know, 9' brittle star legs that creep up on shore and eat pets.

This is getting out of control

maybe these aren't brittle star legs after all. it could be some newly discovered species and you could become independently wealthy and travel the world doing speaking engagements and other cool stuff!
