Brooks' 5g Pico Eye-Candy Build

Hello, ReefCentral!

I have been out of the hobby for quite some time now. Things were coming up with college, cheerleading, etc. and I didn't think that I would find time for a tank. However, now that things have slowed down, and I've been accepted to the University of Texas at Austin, I can finally set up something that I can not only take to college, but that is easy to manage and doesn't require a ton of maintenance.

I went with the EcoPico for a few reasons:
A) I needed something that was allowed by my dorm rules (5g or less).
B) Something that had a clean look, and didn't have much noise-making stuff in it.
C) Easy to maintain.
D) Reliable.

All of these things factored in to my decision, and I can say with ease, that I am VERY happy with my decision!

Tank equipment:

5g EcoExotic EcoPico
5 x 3w EcoExotic LED Strips (1 x Pure Actinic [453nm], 4 x 12k with actinic [453nm])
Internal stock pump
SmartHeater

Coral (current):

-60+ Eye colony of Miami Hurricane
-15 eyes of Jada's Pink Watermelon
-5 polyp Candy Apple Red Palys
-3 polyp Red Hornet Zoanthids

Fish & Inverts (current):

2 x Sexy Shrimp
3 x Dwarf Cerith Snails
1 x Nassarrius Snail

Are you a female? I hope so because you said cheerleading
That's a very ignorant statement to make. Don't forget that cheerleading started out as a male-only sport (George W. Bush and even Samuel L. Jackson were cheerleaders).

On topic... amazing Miami Hurricane colony! It's so rare to see chalice colonies that size. Great tank.

No, I'm a male, and an elite-level cheerleader. I'm going to assume you're just making a joke.

That's a very ignorant statement to make. Don't forget that cheerleading started out as a male-only sport... even so, what does it matter?

Thanks Jane! And that is a very true statement. Cheerleading is just as much a men's sport as it is women's.

But anyhow, on to what this thread is intended for.

Thank you for the compliment! I actually bought it that way from a good friend of mine. He is who I get the majority of my SPS and LPS from (or, who I have gotten them from in the past).

Tank looks good. I just don't agree with Male Cheerleaders. My opinion. Just like you don't lime my opinion I don't like yours when it comes to male cheerleaders. Notice a girl said it's ok, not a male. Just my .02 cents

And you're not ignorant for calling someone ignorant. Can I not have my own opinion. The OP made it a point to point it out that he was a cheerleader. I don't care who was a male cheerleader doesn't mean I have to agree

You're entitled to your opinion. Just as everyone is. However, you don't have to post it here. I don't care what your opinion is on my personal life. This is a thread devoted to my tank. Keep it that way. Thanks.

I didn't ask for your opinion. IF you have comments about my tank, feel free to leave them. However, I'm not here to discuss who does and who doesn't agree with male cheerleaders (as if it is something that should be debated).

I'm reporting your comments, not to get you in any sort of trouble, but to have them removed.

Thanks.

Ok, but I never said anything bad in the comments. Show me where I said anything bad. I know what you're referring too, but I never said it. Also, anything you put in the post is debatable, if you didn't want anyone to say anything about it should have left it out the OP.

Not that you said anything bad, your comment was just unnecessary, off-topic, and plain rude. I'll be sure to leave out any aspects of my personal life when it comes to forum posts from now on. Obviously it is just too controversial.

just stop all the fusing and get on with the tank. ur tank looks great cant wait to see more progress. keep us posted.

Your tank looks awesome! What are you going to do for top off? Just manual? Also, what do you do with the tank when you go home for breaks?

I always thought a sweet idea for a product would be a 5-10g glass nano with a glass lid/handles that you could snap on/strap under the tank, and travel with the whole thing as one unit.

I know we were trying to get off this topic, buy my friend is a male cheerleader at UK. (19 national titles :) ). I saw their nationals routine at halftime today.

Yeah! Manual top off! And I live in Austin, so breaks don't matter as far as moving the tank. I can take it home if I end up living there during breaks.

That is a cool idea! That would make moving easy. P

I actually know how I would do it too if anyone is interested. I would take a sheet of 1/2-3/4 plywood that is 1 inch bigger on each side than the tank. I would then have 4 bolts (one in each corner) coming through frmo the bottom. I would have a top created the same way, except that it has a handle (or two), and a square piece of plexy to match the top of the tank. This plexy would have a gasket.

Now to connect the bottom and top after putting the tank on it, i would have 4 rods made that are threaded on each end.

I am not sure if this is making any sense to anyone but me, but this seems like a cool idea. Except you would have to make sure to build the nano so that the rock inside was really sturdy, almost as if it was one piece.

Ben

How is it being narrow minded. I just don't agree with it. Also I reported you for being a male cheerleader

And if i was ignorant I would have called you a word. You know what it it, but I didn't even though most people associate that with male cheerleaders
