Hello
I.m new to this site, and its nice to have found it. I have a 29 reef wannabe tank, at this point it has several softies and all are doing great.I have a hob filter(not the best) too maxie jet 900 powerheads, and for lighting i have power compacts two 65watt bulbs one daylight and one atinic. The problem is that evey other day i get a thick brown alge on the fine substrate, would the addition of a protien skimmer help in controlling this.
Thanks in advance
Mark

Yep, and add more water flow in your display. Check your phosphates. Algae of any sort will thrive on phosphates & dissolved organics so by skimming with a good skimmer you can really cut back on algae.

If you have softies in the tank already, i am guessing the tank is fully cycled... if it is not, then this brown algae is part of the cyano bloom that is expected during cycling....but good water flow and a skimmer is always good to have... good luck!

Thanks guys,i thought so but i think its good to more inuput from people who know more than me ,,,thanks again

Don't forget the RO/DI when you do water changes you should uer RO/DI to mix your salt in and all top off water should be RO/DI
