o geez, i noticed that i am getting brown on my sand and live rock, which is strange as i used RO water to set the tank up and have no livestock in the tank. what is causing this?????
Diatoms are normal and will go away quickly if your Phosphate and Nitrate are low. They will usually deplete all available silicon in the tank in a few days. They however won't actually disappear since that brown you see are actually billions of what will be skeltons, so you may have to do a bit of brushing this off if your flow isn't strong enough to blow them away.
Anything else that shows up is a problem.

i am going to purchase my own RO system very soon! as i think that the machine water filter might not be true..... and it would say me time from lugging buckets etc..
