Clearly a better light , at what wau do we say this, if the higher end light is 8xs the cost..if it was 300.00 I would say ok not 800.00 ,theres not that much difference for me to justify the 8xs the cost and btw there less than 100.00 now I believe the bare bone boxes are 2 for 165.00 free ship..I just don't see it, that tells me how much markup in the higher end lights, overpriced..

The problem with what your saying IMHO is this video was a video on the black box, and saying it out performed the Radion. It simply used that light as a reference point to a high quality light, but put it up against kessil or AI some of the more affordable "name brand" lights and they still out perform the black box.
If you are lighting a small cube tank where you only need very concentrated light sure they will be a ok option then you get into light a 6 foot tank and you need 12 of them turned all the way down to get the correct spread. and that's if all 12 work will and have been put together the same.
I have friends who went with 2 black boxes for their tank and 4 years later still going strong and their tank is thriving. on the other hand I have a friend who bought 4 black boxes and 3 of them lasted 6 weeks before they burned up, and with the terrible customer service attached to them ended up never getting replacements cause it was "his fault" that he mounted them in a canopy.
So do they out perform more expensive lights all around? in spread, controllability, intensity, and customer service? simple answer is no, but can they put out more light in a tiny section of the tank at times yes. As we all know that is not the function we want our lights to serve, they do not put out an even output of light that covers a large area. So I guess I'm still confused on your definition of out performed, other the they put out more light in a tiny section of the tank, in what ways are they an improvement to A360W or a hydra?
