Brutes w/ bulkheads

I'm looking for low cost RI/DI and Saltwater storage options. I understand Brute trash cans are the way to go. Can these be successfully fitted w/ bulkheads for water inlet and exit? I'd like to plumb the RO/DI directly into one and have a spigot as well to tap water for my other tank (not on the auto top off). Anyone have experience doing this? I am considering the 20 gal. version.

I put a 1" bulkhead on the very bottom of a can and it's been fine for 4-5 months now... It's flat enough on the bottom. I would do uniseal on the side though as mentioned above.

Newbie question - Why are you plumbing the Brute? Are you putting in an overflow so if you forget to turn off your RODI it will drain someplace other than the floor? Or are you plumbing it to your system?

Plumbing the RO/DI into it as a storage tank. Originally set up my tank w/o a sump and have always used water from the RO/DI machine. Works OK but am adding a real sump and RO/DI system. I need both an RO/DI storage tank and a saltwater storage tank. Thinking of using Brutes for both. Brutes (20 gal) are less than $20 at the local Home Depot, polt tanks on line are on the order of $60 and up plus ~$20 shipping ea.

Brutes have been used for years and recently I am seeing all this controversy over them. I say go for it. For the outlet obviously put the uniseal at the bottom, for the inlet I would put it in the center of the lid or at least at the top of the container. You want gravity to be able to help the RODI push the water, so your also going to want to mount the RODI higher than the inlet tube on the Brute.
