Bryopsis & ULNS

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyones' had any success with killing off that devil, bryopsis, with an ultra low nutrient system, whether it be vodka dosing, probiodo, ZEO, or any other ULN system. I've got Bryopsis in my tank and was already considering going to a ULN system, but getting rid or even keeping it at bay, would be icing on the cake.Thanks for any input.

I acquired some tonga branch that was infested with hair algae. Thus far I've been able to get rid of just about all of the hair algae. I changed approximately 50% of the water using RO/DI and then added Prodibio and vodka. While the tank isn't a low nutrient system (yet), the prodibio and carbon-dosing has definitely helped. My tank feeding habits, light schedule etc remained the same throughout. I've just recently added some of bulk reef supply's GFO and am currently watching the system closely.

I have heard bryopsis still live's in ULNS

I am in the process of rasing my MAG to get rid of this stuff.

I will almost guarantee that a large sea hair, a big slug like animal will eat it. Only problem is to keep it away from filter intakes. Trick: may be to raise mg to 1500 to 1600. I eventually just removed the live rock with it on. I did have a sea hair and it was a good addition until it sucked to a tunze.

Wish I could help but this is some nasty stuff, almost made me quit the hobby a couple years back. I tried LNS and many other things but, a fresh start (water, rock, sand) is a sure thing. Im sure plenty of folks will chime in and tell you how to they have beat it.

Tell me about it! I've tried raising the mag but on a system with 240 gallons total volume it sure does eat up the liquid magnesium. I flew through a gallon already and had to order another. Anyone have a better way to raise magnesium? I'm tired of plucking this stuff every couple of weeks!!

You'll get the "mag." and certain "nudis" will eat it the stuff from many but, I have never seen it work long-term. Don't touch it (pull or scrub) it will come back twice as bad.

I did a restart almost 2 years ago, everything that goes in now is highly inspected.

raising the magnesium to 1500-1600 got rid of it for me. it was all gone within a week. more then half my tank was covered in it!

I use epsom salt to raise mag, much cheaper than anything else. Everyone says it will screw up your "ionic balance", but since mag doesnt drop much once it is where you want it I don't see it as a problem considering I do water changes on a regular basis.

I tried epson salt and it did not work for me. I swiched to Kent Marine Tech M and its almost 100% gone. Do not know why but it worked.

my only adive is don't give up no matter how frustrated you get, you 'll eventually beat it but you have to keep attacking it until one of the methods described works for you!

Alright, finally got my 1 gallon of kent marine Tech M. Didn't have to dose too much. Magnesium is at 1650. I haven't seen the bryopsis retreating yet but i'll give it some time.

It takes about a week to start deteriorating. I won...it took 3 gallons of Tech M.

I have both bryopsis and what was an ULNS... all my SPS were extremely pale (some white) and my cleanup crew was dying off, but the bryopsis was still hanging around. I have an overrated skimmer and a PO4 reactor with only two clowns to feed... I didn't even really mean to get to an ULN state. I've decided to start feeding the corals more to keep them alive and healthy and skimming out the excess as fast as possible. The corals are recovering. The bryopsis seems to be able to persist in ULNS, the best you can hope for is to that it stops growing. Epsom salts seemed to help (it turned brown for a couple of weeks), but I'm waiting for test kits before I push the Mg levels any higher.

gfo and refug with cheto with very high light and change your calcium reactor media to fresh stuff i added some zeo mag in there as well . added 2 TUNZES streams and restocked snails and hermits i won

I raised my mag to 2100 ppm with tech m and all my bryopsis went away in 2 weeks. I had A LOT of the devil bryopsis.

Yeah,I've got two phosban reactors filled with Rowaphos,checked my phosphates with a Hanna Phosphate meter... .02. Mags at 1650, refugium's full of cheato, 4-maxi-jet 2100gph mods, snails, crabs, etc. I also cut back feeding frozen food to every other day.
Will high Magnesium affect my inverts, especially my cleaner shrimp?

IME, Mg does a good job. However, I have found if the levels drop, the bryopsis comes back. I did the exact same thing hedge did and eventually it went away.
