Bta ?

Got a bta for my clown the othe day, and for the first 5 days or so he stayed open all the time. For the past 3 days or so, I'll go to the tank and he will be totally closed up, except the white inside ofthe mouth will be pushed out...like a hernia almost.

So, question is: Is this normal for them? Once he did this after he caught one of my shrimp pellets, but the last 2 times he didnt catch any food, it was just random.

So you have had it for 7 days now? It still could be getting used to your tank, but I would be a bit concerned. Any chance of getting a picture of it?

And, some info on your tank would be helpful too ---
What size tank
What lights
Water parameters (( with numbers ))

Next time i see him do it, I'll grab a picture.
24G nano
10K Coralife MH
ph 8.3
nitrate 0
nitrite 0

Thats all i remember from my last test, I'll test it again tonight and get back with you

Not sure. I dont have a salinity tester. It goes in and out....it will stay like that for 10 hours or so, then open back up for a day or two.l...

How do you know if you have the right salinity level? Do you have a hydrometer and/or a refractometer ? That could be a big part of the issue.

My nem is very sensitive to salinity level. It will close if my tank is below 1.022 it will hide around 1.023 and is open for business at 1.024. I also have only had my nem for a few days, but I have been constantly monitoring levels and this is a trend that I have noticed. I'm sure this is just coincidence, but I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the behavior of my nem so I don't have any surprises. I added a little too much RO water for my freshwater top off and it closed immediately, this is why I think it is so sensitive to the salinity.

I have a BTA species tank, and put an inexpensive ATO system on it from autotopoff.com. Around $50 total - just a thought
