Bubble Anemone with SPS

Hi All

I am thinking of getting a Bubble Anemone for my SPS Dominant 60Gal.
I know that anemone's can sting quite badly but I have seen Bubble Anemone's in smaller SPS reef's with SPS colonies inches away from it. I have a small Blasto colony, that aren't very aggro at all. Mushrooms and Zoo colonies here and there-no probs, except if I put my giant shrooms near my hydrophora.

What are your thoughts on Bubble Anemone's and SPS? Good Idea?Bad Idea? Anybody have any experience with them?

Regards,
Nic

hit or miss i guess. i have 2 in my mixed reef and they don't really bother anything at all sps wise. i've had some bta's walk on top of zoos and shrooms and stuff and completely wipe them out, and i've had a rose that was inter-mingled with a green digi colony, and there wasn't even a sliming incident.

hit or miss

I'd say bad idea, because the anemone will most likely not be happy with the place you decide for it, and when it goes moving it won't care what's in it's stinger's path.

What else could I add that a pair of clowns would make home. Perhaps they'll like my Giant Shrooms there's one thats about 5" in diameter.
Basically I want to add clowns. A friend of mine's Large Clarkii has made his home a large tridacna clam.., strange.

Anenome generally don't move if they are happy.

But it is hit and miss as mentioned.

I recently say two BTAs next two and rubbing some orange digis, the owner said there was some bleaching, but no RTN. When I asked he didn't seemed too concerned at all.

I personaly gave up on BTA and went to a Sebae, and am very happy. It walks WAY less, in fact hasn't but once in the year I had it only then because of an ALK spike.

I have a neon bubble and a rose bubble in my 125 with plenty of sps. Not a problem for me at all so far. Though there is room in my 125 for the bubbles to fine a relatively open space in the rock work. That's what is key -- having room to foot in the rock work.

you mean like this??

I completely agree. I have mine on seperate rock by it self. I really think having anemone w/ clowns gives nice look to your tank.

I asked myself the exact same question for the longest time. Finally, I went for a nice Rose BTA, it moved quite a bit from where I placed it in the tank; but, after that first night, it hasn't moved since. Luckily, the home it found is in a spot where there are no SPS. I agree in that if the anenome is happy, it will not move.

Not to hijack, but, any secrets in getting the tips to bubble, James?

Rutz81, I have no idea about getting it to bubble. Mine has always been bulb tip since I got it. Maybe you should ask in the anemone and clown fish forum.

Naka: how long have you had it for? What kind of flow is it? A lot, I assume, seeing as you're BB and it's in an open area. Is it also getting strong light?

I think 1 is fine in a 60G. But you have to plan for the worst case.
I started with 2 RBTA, quicked splited into 4 in this pics 3 months ago

redo rockscape, so they started to walk and split, now I have 7 Roses. Not all can be seen in the pic.

I only had it for about 2 months now. Flow is med but random (OM 4way). I have it all the way at the bottom, but seems to like more shaded area b/c it keeps on facing the shadow. I have 2 x 250 w BLV 10k w/ 4 x 54 w T5 for my lights.

I just turn the rock around to make it face the front of the tank. It's been like that for couple of weeks now. I think the key is the flow, if it's not getting enough or too much ten it will definitely try to move. Also, make sure the anemone is on a seperate rock. It will be a nighmare if it moves on to my rockscape.

Here's a picture from about 4 weeks ago. It's gotten a lot larger since then. I've been feeding it almost everyday.

I asked about the BTA because I thought that it may be the only one acceptible to have amongst SPS.

@sacramentodots
You said you went for a Sebae, I will have a look at some info in the anemone threads regarding them.

I'm short of just making a tank specifically for an anemone and clowns(more friggen money!). I've never had much luck with clowns, it may be(not sure) the fact that I've never given them anything to help them feel safe.

Anyway,
thanks for the help guys

i have a RBTA that has split once (clone has since disappeared) and both of them wandered around quite a bit for a while. neither stung a single piece of coral. right now the remaining half is on a ledge right beneath a large green tort and some xenia and right above a hammer. the only thing that seems to care about contact with the RBTA is the xenia but they only retract. the tort actually melts them down to little stumps. a little bleaching was noticed on the bottom of one branch of the tort but it has since recoverd despite more contact.
in short......
hit or miss

I have a rbt that split and both found a spot and stayed there. They have yet to hurt any of my sps though. it seems like the red bubbles find a place and dont move.
