Bubble King 400 EXT (Pics inside)...

I thought the factory packing of my BK was pretty darn good, though I admit that for the price, it could have been better. But it was certainly adequate. The one thing I didn't like is that the bubble wrap was taped to the skimmer with brown packing tape leaving a brown sticky residue in a couple spots. But it did clean off fairly easily.

My 400 is the internal model and is water tight in all areas except for one. The only area that has a slow drip leak is where the telescopic pipe that you raise up and down fits into its connection on the skimmer. But mine is the internal model that is for in-sump use so it is a moot point. The externals use couplings which provide a good seal.

I agree with what moonpod stated about the dual outlet pipes. I really don't understand why there is a need for 2, but I will not doubt Klaus's expertise in this area. If he thinks there should be 2, there is probably a good reason for it. My internal model comes with a sinle larger outlet pipe. I think it is around the equivalent to a 2" diameter. There is no way this skimmer is going to take in more water than this pipe can handle.

The adjustable nozzles are only for the internal models so you can control the water input. Klaus has stated that the pump will suck in the same amount of air regardless of how much water is being sucked in. I have found this not to be the case, but I don't have a large enough air flow meter to verify it. With my nozzle screwed most of the way in, I get a skimmer body that is sparsely filled with bubbles. The more I unscrew the nozzles the more dense the bubbles in the body get. Take the nozzle off completely and WATCH OUT! With my nozzle completely off, the skimmer body looks like the pic that moonpod posted. But if it is on, even if it is uscrewed almost completely, the bubble density doesn't come close.

My skimmer came with 3 POM NW's, no titanium NW's. Each POM NW, is a different size.

I had a question about the gray T's... I take it I need to glue the red PVC on the lower part of the T's along with the middle part that attached to the 90deg... Also the red PVC that is on bottom facing down (outlet) from the 90deg needs to be longer, any ideas on how I can extend it, as it's 50mm I believe and does not convert well to US inches...

get conversion fittings...finsreef.com

Hmm, I looked around on finsreef for a few min and was not able to find any info on conversion fittings ??

(posted here also in case anyone else has a dry BK with this look  )

----

Yeah I ditched the 2 tiny red PVC pieces. I got 3 medium sized pieces - cut one in half and used them to connect the telescopic tubes. I didn't end up having to get the metric/US converters after all in my application. Here are a couple dry pix, you'll see I'm one piece short cuz there were 3 long pieces before I split one.

Finsreef, or probably whoever you got the skimmer from can get you the PVC conversion pieces IF you need them. I thought Klaus mentioned earlier in this thread they might supply them?

Ignore the crappy stickers. I don't know who put them on. My 3 year old, probably. But he's a USC fan so hah! :whipping:

Little punk. Trojans suck. Go Big 12.

Mine is a RD BK 2000 - I think that number is the LPH. So yours is 250LPH more than mine, but the skimmer is much bigger. I saw Chucks in person. The 400 is MASSIVE!

I never knew Klaus' number was on there, I wonder if they know the Prince Albert in a can, or Is your refrigerator running - phone pranks.

BTW - the aquarium is acrylic. Putting him in a USC shirt was the Mrs idea. She's a punk, too. The kid is "Miguel".

OK I need sleep now. ;-)

From what somone told me my pump has the wrong lable on it and should be a 2500 like Travis's... So I should be pushing 500LPH more ;) I would like to look into this more to make sure that I do have the right pump, but I am not sure how...

I think personally that the 400 should have the 2500. Pix of the 300's look more dense than pix of the 400. I'm sure the 2250 is MORE than fine, but I'm sure it can handle a 2500. The water volume of the 400 vs 300 has to be more than 12.5% - although I'm sure this is much more complicated than a linear equation like that.

I completely agree with that statement. Even with my nozzle removed on my RD, the body of the BK does not look as dense with bubbles as the 250's or 300's that I have seen pics of.

I have been wanting to weight my BK400 for sometime now...

Cup only :

Rest of the BK400 without the cup :

Total BK400 :

The total seems to be a little off but then again the full skimmer would not fit on the scale...

Bad picture. The angle makes the empty part look bigger than it is. Works fine. Hardly ever pay attention to it.

Chuck, where did you get the tubing to extend the drain tube line? And what size tubing is it?

It's 1/2" vinyl tubing....the connector is some random piece I found at the hardware store that is 1/4" barb on one side and I dunno what size mpt on the other--it jams into 1/2" vinyl nicely though....
