Travis you have a BK 400 internal right? Have you cleaned the air silencer yet? Klaus said it can be taken apart and cleaned. Still trying to figure out how to do it. Do you know whats in the air silencer?

Correct. My silencer is not removable.:( I consider that a flaw in the design because no matter what material is used it is going to get dirty and restrict air flow eventually. Mine would get dirty every couple months and I would rinse it with RO water. Did this a couple times and since then I have just used it without the silencer. My tank and equipment area all in a tank room so the noise doesn't matter.

Keep in mind that there is nothing in these silencer's, so the fact that you can't access doesn't really cause any issues. This silencer is a "muffler", with just two pipes running into it, which cuts down the noise. The only silencer that I know of on the market that actually uses a fill inside of it is the ATI.

Umm, Jeremy how much quality control does Royal Exclusiv do? I heard my skimmer rattling and decided to take it apart and inspect further. Upon inspection of the needlewheel I found some white shavings on the pin wheel. I seen on some older pics of how Klaus makes these pinwheels on his cnc machine. Looks like they forgot to clean my needle wheel.

I don't think you can really knock on Klaus QC, however that is a bummer you had a little left over shavings in there. Unfortunately that's just a small byproduct of CNC'ing those impellers, rather than injection molding them. I've had 4 pumps open on the shipment of skimmers that we received, and didn't have any shavings in them.

Not knocking Klaus Jeremy but someone should have caught the shavings on the impellar before I ever plugged it in. I don't care if its a by product of the CNC machining. The impellar should have been inspected and cleaned before even assembled in this skimmer. If I spent over $1118 on a skimmer it should not have any shavings what so ever on the impellar. One of the shavings made its way into the impellar housing. I wonder why skimmer and pump were rattling. This is a $780.00 dollar pump to replace if action wasn't taken right away. Looks like someone was in a hurry to put these skimmers together meaning cnc shavings still on impellar, and a cnc made bubble injection plate instead of a clear bubble injection plate which makes absolutely no sense. You need to see the output of the pump to line it up with the clear part of the bubble plate for correct performance. When examining the bubble plate even further there were huge scuff marks on the inner bubble plate. Not if its going to matter in performance but I don't want no scuffed up equipment after paying big money for this skimmer. I know these skimmers don't come in boxed but those scuff marks are unexceptable and most likely happened at the factory not shipping. I will monitor my skimmer more carefully but I really do want a clear bubble plate and most likely going to ask for a replacement of the impellar without any shavings still attached to the pinwheel if I see anymore rattling or noise comming from the skimmer.

sounds like someone's having a little buyer's remorse

When I get the line "unfortunately its part of the CNC process" as an excuse for quality control I am not too happy about that after shelling out $1118 for a skimmer which is suppose to be known for top notch quality. I just received a call from home and was told the skimmer is making a loud rattling and is visibly shaking. Not happy when I have over $1300 of rare fairy wrasses and $700 for a Tinkers butterfly and mitatus butterly swimming around.

Can you get someone to turn the skimmer off and on ? usualy that will take care the problem with a pump some times .
I know it is $1118 skimmer....

Zoom, I already instructed my brother to do it. But the vibration came back 10 minutes later. Most likely the pinwheel is off balance and not free from vibration.
