Bubble King Skimmer Club

Btw: I use the sm200 and the red dragon 6.5m because they use the same block. So my extra block can be used for either pump. I like this idea better than having two different red dragon pumps (big block and small block).
I myself don't forsee ever changing to the dc pumps because it doesn't really do anything special that my current pumps don't do, same wattage usage, and same water/air mixture. I don't ever need to adjust the speed of my skimmer or return pump, it's simply on or off. I could see using a dc pump as a closed loop pump though, cuss programming the pump on apex to ramp up and down on the closed loop would be pretty neat!! That would eliminate having to use an oceans motion device or something of the sort since the pump ramping up and down will create the same thing.

I agree with not switching to the DC version. My skimmer works great with the standard AC version. Funny you mention using an Ocean's motion unit, I have one and I love it.

In terms of the pump, which Laguna model is the right one for my pump?

No, the magnet does not spin on the shaft

So the block inside the Laguna will work with this pump?

Just an updated regarding Premium Aquatics. I emailed Jason and he has been in contact with me, so Kudos to PA for being proactive. Jason has offered me a potential solution to my problem if Royal doesn't take care of this matter in a timely fashion. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Thanks for the help.

Correction.. That is the big block Red Dragon as Jthao suggested.. This should be the correct pump with a big block motor inside.

Glad to hear Premium is trying to help you. They really are great people but they are unfortunately caught in the middle of a transition period with BK's new US operation and also a bit behind the eight ball with Jeremy's departure. BK will get their act together with US support. Opening an operation in a foreign country even if it's the US can be a daunting task..

Thanks for the help everyone. I'll post some status updates, hopefully Royal will be turing over a new leaf with the US operations and I can post some positive news about their customer service.

Brett,
I was talking to a friend with a Supermarin 250 & RD2000 pump last night and he noticed the bearing/bushing was stuck to the bottom of the impeller shaft which if I am not mistaken should not be. The impeller shaft should spin freely in the bearing. The bearing as it's referred to by Royal Exclusiv should get installed into the motor block before putting the impeller back into the block. There is a certain way to install the bearing into the block as there is an o-ring to hold it in place..

Take a look at page 6 & 7 of the manual below and if I were you, I would double check the bearing. Pull it out of the block and make sure it isn't tight on the shaft and that the shaft spins freely when inserted into the bearing. If it's tight on the shaft, it would cause resistance on the impeller that could prevent it from spinning at proper speeds which in turn could cause the lower flow you are seeing. It could also cause premature failure of the block. You may need to clean the hole in the center of the bearing with a tooth pick where the shaft goes and do so after a good vinegar bath to insure there isn't any buildup that would cause resistance on the shaft. Also, if the bearing isn't installed in the block properly, it may not center itself properly and as a result could cause resistance on the shaft too. As such, pulling it out and following the instructions for reinstalling it may be a smart move.

I hope so. I am stilll waiting for the pump replacement for my BK 200.
It will be 6 months in few more days. Unfortunately I am considering getting a different skimmer.
I loved my BK while it worked but RE costumer service is non existent.

MBMAX - where did you buy your skimmer?

Slief - I've checked and double checked the bearing. Seems ok.

RE has received pictures and a video of my pump. They have started the process to try and resolve the issues. I'll post an update later tonight.

MBMAX - where did you buy your skimme?

I bought it from PA and It worked well for 5 months then the pump just stop working.
I send it to PA and they send it to RE .I was told it would be replaced under the warranty.
That was over 5 months ago and dozens of emails , calls and excuses and still no pump.

They tell it is almost solve but days go by and nothing.
Very frustrating.

I have a Laguna max flo 2000. And it's the same exact motor. I believe the older 1500 is also the same motor block. But the newer 1500 and 1350 is the small block which is not our sm200 block. The small block is for the mini bk and the vertex alphas, and the secondary pump for the bk sm300.
Just make sure its the big block, you'll notcie the difference cuss the small block is a lot smaller. Idk for sure about the 1500/1350, so to be safe, just stick with a max flo 2000, it's definitely the same motor block for sure!

Just to update in my situation, today I was asked the same information by PA in the other hand RE doesn't respond .
I am considering posting the emails I get from them so you could see the excuses I get.
You will not believe it.

I had to buy a new skimmer my pump was away so long, and they charged me for repairs whilst still under warranty. Basically it was pay up or lose the skimmer, now the pumps back the skimmer will be sold.

Does Klaus or anybody that sells bubble kings just not care anymore? If I was in Royal Exclusives position, I would be doing everything in my power to get this taken care of....but it seems like Klaus stays away from this forum now. It's a shame.

How does a company that undeniably sells the most expensive skimmers and sumps, just leave so many customers SOL on customer service/support/warranty claims?!!! Just makes me mad reading all this!!!

I love their skimmers and I already have some. But I will honestly say that if I didn't already have them and was in the market for a new skimmer, with all these negative feedback and unsolved issues, i would never buy anything royal exclusiv!

Seems like so far, all the issues with warranty have never been resolved, if I'm wrong, please whoever has had good luck with getting their pumps exchanged out, post back here. Probably gonna be crickets with that one.

Totally agree!

I Can't believe the issues you guys are having. Its makes you wonder how many pumps are actualy failing.Id say a fare few and it's hits them hard or they would just simply replace the odd faulty one.You think there would be some law to a timeframe for turnaround of faulty products.I hope you guys get all your issues sorted.

It's not just customers who have had issues contacting R-E lately. We're in the exact same boat... except for the fact that we sell their products, so we also get a share of the (totally justifiable) anger and frustration from end users.
Anyone who has contacted us for a warranty issue can attest to the fact that we make contact OFTEN with R-E to try for resolution on each issue - and in nearly every circumstance, we're given a week, or two-week, or three-week long delay until the part or replacement or repair will be ready. We pass that information along, and when R-E fails to meet that deadline, we look like bad guys for not following through on an ETA.
I've spoken up about this incessantly over the last few months, and my question to the powers-that-be is this: How does it benefit us to have the best products available if we're also anchored to what's arguably some of the worst customer service in the industry? And if they're constantly causing warranty issues, are they still the best products?
I also feel your frustration that anyone from R-E seems to have vanished from this thread (and two or three others pertaining to their products) over the last couple months. They opened their Florida location to facilitate business here in the states, but there hasn't been any indication that it has helped - everything still needs approval from Germany and so the process drags out.
Please - if you purchased your R-E products from us and you're still experiencing issues or waiting on a warranty resolution, PM me with your details. I'm compiling a list to take to the boss. If he has all of the names and the issues right in front of him when he makes the call, it should give him more leverage to get things handled.

Again, I apologize that everyone is going through this mess. We're going through it right along with you, and we're trying to make everything right, but we experience the same disconnect that you do. We're not going to stop trying until everyone's issues are solved.

" Pm me with your details".......How many times we have to sent the same information?
I have done it at least 3-4 times to PA and probably same to RE . It is very frustrating to be ask for the same thing over and over and nothing is solve.
The only thing I hear is apologies from everyone but the only thing I need is my pump.

I feel that if I sell you something and it breaks I will take care of the problem ,but I have being told by PA to contac RE directly and deal with them and I dont think that is fair.

I was told last week again that my pump will be send "TODAY(11/10/14) from Germany and I will have it by next week". .....lets wait and see since I heard that before.

I agree with your comments 100%...

It was so frustrating being asked the same thing over and over again! And then RE told me my skimmer wasn't broken in even though I sent them a video of my skimmer pump running and it was clear as day that it was not generating the proper flow to air ratio. Jason was cc:'ed on every email and I can assure you that he felt just as frustrated as I did after seeing my video of the pump running and pictures of all the parts. He couldn't believe how well I had taken care of my pump.

I really want to try and post the email chain so everyone can see how this went down, but....

HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS:
Jason sent me a brand new loaner skimmer to use until RE gets me a new pump. HUGE KUDOS TO PA FOR DOING THAT! So in my case, PA stood behind the product and supported me as a long time customer.

Then today, after going back and forth with RE for only ten days, Matthias emailed me stating he is sending me a new pump tomorrow. Assuming the pump gets sent tomorrow and I have it some time next week, I would have to argue that I think Matthias and RE are finally getting the picture. I am keeping my fingers crossed that my new pump will indeed arrive sometime next week, but in the mean time I have the loaner skimmer to keep my tank going.

I hope that everyone else who is waiting for a pump get's theirs soon too. I can't believe how long some of you have been waiting.

^^^^^ Deltec tried this model as well. very unnerving. I am sorry for everyone troubles. I hope as some have already stated that the ball is rolling in the right direction.

I really hope Royal Ex. gets it together, they make a great product, but they also need great customer service to go with it. I believe it will get much better. It is very hard to keep faith when you are going through this, I know went through it with Deltec.
I feel for everyone that is trying to get service.
