Bubble King Skimmer Club

Over 7 1/2 inches of water you have diminishing returns , I think people sometimes confuse the water line mark on the skimmer with what the depth of water the skimmer should stand in is and not the adjustment line.

Two full turns out from the tight position on the volute until the dots line up. then using the riser tube, adjust the water level so that the water level while on is just at the base of the cyclinder inside of the collection cup or a tad lower.. Make sure you make this adjustment prior to any feedings or having your hands in the water to ensure some kind of consistency..

Also, I have seen the best performance with the water level outside of the skimmer at about 7 to 7 1/2 inches.. Good luck and as creetin stated, give her a little time to break in.

Johnathan,

Thank you. I saw IMMEDIATE results raising the skimmer to get 7-1/4" of water that it was sitting in and two full turns out. Thank you for your help. Nice dry foam in the riser now. Just hope it makes it to the collection cup. It should. :bounce3:

Here is how things look now:

10"? is that the recommended depth? I had mine in 6" of water. It pulled out black waste every 3 days, but my tank was too small for the BK180

Ok well its actully in 9" of water, but thats where it was for over a year and i had no problem with it.

It seems like the higher i have it the better it is, but i still have to have the water level in the skimmer so high for it to do anything. After a week of skimming there isnt much in the collection cup. Ill check the nipple to see if thats ok, but i dont get it. It worked awsome for over a year, something is just not right with it.

This morning, I have dry foam hanging around the outer ring of the lid. Thank you. I would have never thought to try 7 inches. You solved my problem with this idea and I am liking this skimmer again. I appreciate the help.

I guess I can no longer say that my SM250 won't skim dry...

That's fantastic news Hutch!!! I think I speak for most SM250 owners when I say... This skimmer ROCKS!!! Continued success to you...

i am about to go for the BK mini series. Wondered if the 180 would fit what i need or would i need the 200. I have a 150G DT with 40 gallon Ref.

Just joined the club last night :)

BK Mini 200

its still breaking in but hopefully by the time i get home it will be producing its nice foam. I had a Bubble Magus 150 Pro and my water line was at about 9" so hopefully the BK will be ok with this height. I keep seeing some of you guys running your skimmers at 7" so its got me a bit worried now lol.

Sorry i dont have experience with the mini's, But to me that feels like the upper edge of the skimmers range. Since BK's typically like to work hard I would not think thats a problem. But if you want to upgrade in the future or add on a frag tank I would feel better with the 200. JMO

I am in search for a new skimmer and am interested in the Bubble King 180 Mini Gen 2. I have a 180 SPS with a heavy bioload. Would this skimmer be enough for my tank?

Like i stated above to JD, I think the bigger model would be best for you too. At least the 200.
You could do the 250 vertex cone which would fit your system the best. IMO

hmm interesting observation.... I had a stand made for my mini 200 since i saw a lot of you were placing your skimmers at about 7" by default my sump is 9" deep so after the water starts flowing the skimmer is sitting in like 9.5" of water. I used the stand for 7" but was not getting it skim much, it would stay at the neck and not collect much. More than likely however this is due to my small tank about 100 gallons total with like 12fish tiny to about 3". I then moved the skimmer back down to 9.5" and i am now skimming pretty dry. Where the tea was pretty translucent before its now thick ;). Today is day two of skimming and its already starting to fill. for testing purposes i cleaned the cup on sunday and will see where i am at by the end of the week compared to when i had it up at 7"

Thanks.

Greetings all I come with a question.

I have a S.M. 200 that skims dry 95% of the time. However after I clean the neck and cup sometime the skimmer will go nuts and overflow for a few days to a week. In the past it seems to settle down on its own but now it hasn't. Even after adjustments it still overflows the cup within a few hours. I've checked all connections and every thing seems connected. Any thoughts?

Make sure you are cleaning out the air hose it can get salt creep over time and it will lower the airflow thus more water instead of air. I usually remove the silencer and send some fresh RO water down the hose.... Viola sucking in air like crazy again :)

question :), so i looked it up and i found one thread but not a solution in the thread... maybe its been mentioned before but my search is not yielding any results for me.

pretty much the skimmer builds up small air pockets under the bubble plate and when there is enough they combine and there is a massive "burp" that makes its way up the skimmer. I tried to clean the plate and center it to see if it would make a difference but no. Any other suggestions?

Bubble King Mini 200.

Thanks!

Today I removed the skimmer and gave it a thorough cleaning along with the air tube. Skimmer is still overflowing. Any more ideas?

Sorry to hear that bud, did you also take apart the silencer? inside the silencer there is a piece of foam, and two pipes one on each end of the covers. Make sure this is not cloged.....
