Bubble King Skimmer Club

Something that comes to mind is disconnect the silencer and just it run with the house attatched, see if that changes anything......

I can understand your frustration man..... for me honestly i had some junk in the sump that kept the skimmer going nutts and eventually it stopped.... also how high is your water level in the sump where the skimmer sits?

P.M. you know I did a water change today and assumed the water level was the same. I was checking that as you were posting. I removed about one inch of water and it seems to have settled down just a little. I'll report back but in the mean time I really appreciate all your help!

Quick question since I may have a BK available to purchase. Would a Bk mini 200 gen 1 be able to handle a 240G mixed reef with a medium bio load?

Hi Jeramy

I hope you can help me please.

I have a Bubble King Min 160 on a 50G mixed reef. I have 6 fish, a few small SPS a two small SPS. Be setup now 3 months.

I run carbon & GFO and feed heavy.

All my parameters are good with ALK = 8.9 Ca = 410 & Mg =1300. All others zero.

I have tried to get this skimmer to skim but can't. I have tried it in various depth from 7 1/2" to 10".

I have taken it apart twice and all seems good. no blockages or breaks.

Here is two videos, one in 7 1/2 " the other in 10".

Any ideas PLEASE

Thank you!

Hi ksed

thanks for your help,

How deep is your water level? Should be 20-25 cm

Yes i have run it at different depths, from 7 1/2 to 10". nothing seems to change though.

I tried last night without the silencer on, just incase there was a blockage in there, but same performance.

I am now running it in 8" depth with the bubbles breaking about an inch up inside the riser tube.

Could it be that it is just to big a skimmer for my system?

Oh yea, thats another thing lol.... i have about 13 small to med fish, plus feed like craaazzy!! just to make sure the skimmer continues to skim. I know it might seem like a waste but i feel like this way all my corals get a chance to feed since the food is suspended in the water longer. Once it is dissolved the skimmer takes over!

shaggs, you're running the water level inside the skimmer way too low. Close the wedge pipe just slightly so that the water level in the skimmer is just under where the clear acrylic neck meets the white pvc neck. This will get it going for you! **note** pay not attention to the water level limit mark that comes on the skimmer, in my opinion, this is way too low of a water level, which is shown by your video.

Jeremy (& sorry for spelling it wrong before!)

Many thanks for your input. This morning I have raised it so the bubbles are breaking about an inch inside the riser tube. I will leave it there fore a few days to see what happens.

Many thanks for all your help.

How long have you had it?

ksed

Again thanks for your help, it has been running on the tank since the start (about 3 months) and it was new then.

My Bubble King mini 180 arrived today (I bought it used). Fedex was apparently not too kind to it. The base is cracked where the rubber foot attaches and there is a two inch crack in the neck at the top. The caulking at the base where the body attaches to the base has come off on the same corner as the broken base (I expect it was the same impact).

Don't want my money back - just want my bubble king. What can I use to repair it? Alternately, where could I get replacement parts?

sorry to hear that man :( fedex did a number to me as well years back with my APF600 deltec, they sent the broken skimmer back to seller, seller got insurance funds, and kept mine.... bad month for sure.

Repair, I can suggest Weldon-3 or 4 for the acrylic parts, from the acrylic to PVC?? not sure maybe weldon 40 or since it will be in the tank youdont have to worry much about leaks so you could use some Weldon16. At the base where it cracked, try to use the weldon 3 or 4 to get them to bond again, if it is PVC i am honestly not sure how it will react. I did repair one of my Deltecs years ago when my cat decided to rub againts it when it was empty :( put a nice 2" crack where one of the bulkheads went, and it was leaking like crazy, used a litte weldon and ran for years after that :).

I wish you good luck buddy and post some pics of the carnage if you can.

Interesting - does anybody know for sure what the base of the mini-180 is made of? If it is PVC, could I not just dab a bit of PVC cement into the cracked area?

Hey buddy how did it turn out? hope you got it skimming! ?

Jeremy & PM

As of last night there is still no skimate being produced. I am away, so when I get back I will take another video to see if you guys can see what is happen ing.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated!

cheers

Ok, 3 days now with the bubbles breaking just on the white PVC area as Jeremy suggested. It is in 8" of water.

As you can see from the video, there is on a very slight coating of skimmate in the riser tube.

What else can I try? I was thinking of putting it in a bucket with a few dead big prawns and see if it will pull anything out? Sound good? What else could I try?

Thanks to all in advance.
