Bubble King Skimmer Club

There is no update from Gen 1 to Gen 2 Mini 180's or 200's. The hole in the body is larger on the Gen 2, plus the pump sets at a different spot inside the skimmer body on the Gen 2 models due to the larger pump head.

Jeremy,

Any ideas on where to find a replacement lid for the cup on my gen 2 mini 160?

I was organizing skimmers on a shelf in my garage and almost dropped the entire skimmer but only lost the lid and broke a big chunk off the acrylic ring that's glued to the lid. I can most likely fix it but would still like to know if I can get a new one and what they would cost. If they are buku $$$ then I'll just fix it as best I can.

Thanks

Sent you back an email about 30 mins ago. We can get you one, I just need to wait and hear back on stock (if it's here in the US or needs to be ordered in), and pricing on it. I'll send you back an email once I hear something.

BTW, glad to hear it was only the lid, and not the body! ;)

What would be an acceptable tank size for a gen2 mini 160? Mostly sps, medium fish load. Want the quality and consistency but not sure if the smallest bk is still too big.

Thanks. What is the recommended water depth for this skimmer?

Thanks Jeremy,

I fixed the old lid with some super glue and it is good as new (minus the crack-LOL). I appreciate your prompt reply and great CS. Skimmer is back up and running well.

So I'm running a bk 300 internal deluxe on a 300. It seems to have trouble w the bubbles breaking over the neck unless I elevate the riser tube quite a bit. Along to as tall as it can be. Is this normal? I have a pretty heavy fish bioload so I am sure there is plety of stuff to skim out. Most of the gunk is just building up on the neck. I couldn't try to make the cup overflow even if I wanted to.

Any thoughts?

Also in the instructions regarding the water to air stripline, it talks about a stripline marked with a silver sticker imprinted with a solid line.... does anyone have a picture of their skimmer with this marking? i am trying to find it but having a hard time

Need some SM 250 advice from the pros. I am trying to stop fiddling with it and leave it alone; but with that said... I have it wet skimming well, but I want to dry it up some. Is this best done by :

1. turning the riser tube counter clockwise (decreasing water level)
2. rotating the pump input tube clockwise? (increasing air flow / decreasing water flow)

Also, I already have the dots lined up by rotating CC from fully screwed in....

How long have you had it?, They typically run a little weird till they break in about 4 weeks.
If you have had it for a while try lowering the water level in the sump.

Welcome and pretty cool you have piraya as a native fish. I used to keep exported piranha from there.

Two full turns out from the tight position on the volute until the dots line up. then using the riser tube, adjust the water level so that the water level while on is just at the base of the cyclinder inside of the collection cup or a tad lower.. Make sure you make this adjustment prior to any feedings or having your hands in the water to ensure some kind of consistency..

Also, I have seen the best performance with the water level outside of the skimmer at about 7 to 7 1/2 inches.. Good luck and as creetin stated, give her a little time to break in.

Im actully having the same problem, but mine is with the BK mini 160. When i first got it, it was working like a champ dry skimming, but now i have to turn the riser tube quite a bit just to get it to try to skim.

I did take the whole skimmer out gave a big cleaning, but that didnt help. It still skims just not like it did. I keep it in water about 10 inches or so, but cant figure out what im doing wrong. In fact somtimes i have the neck too high that water comes out of the neck. Any thoughts?

BK 200 Generation 1

BK 200 Generation 1

Do these skimmers work? I am looking to buy a used one and i keep hearing over and over that the pump is under rated for the body and thats why BK switched to the Gen 2 venturi etc... Looking for advice because i dont want to buy someone else's problem. Thanks. Its going on a decently stocked 125 with a 40 or so gallon sump.

Did ya check the nipple where the silicone hose hooks to the pump? Sometimes ca or salt creep builds up in there restricting the air.

10"? is that the recommended depth? I had mine in 6" of water. It pulled out black waste every 3 days, but my tank was too small for the BK180

Thanks guys. The skimmer is approaching 3 months in operation. Right now I have it running at three turns out and the skimmate in the riser is quite thick is is sticking to the top of the lid. I will elevate the skimmer in the sump today and try to get it a little drier. I apologize for the delay as I was out of town.
