Bubble King Skimmer Club

You would need to get something long and thin, possibly even some of the metal tongs if you have any? If not, try a screwdriver to see if you can get it.

Well I pulled the bearing out and soaked it along with the impellar in vinegar...Still inop however the hum noise has changed and is a little more audible at first.

Jeremy/Tbone/other SM250 owners,

This may be a really silly question, but how do you clean the riser tube on this model if at all. Lately, I've notice a decrease in performance... Let me start off explaining what I did.. I looked at my skimmer and noticed the bubbles rising well into the middle of the collection cup.. I placed my finger over the air opening in the riser and the bubbles began to climb(naturally). When I released my finger, instead of the bubble returning to the middle of the cup, they dropped to the bottom of the cup.. This told me that I probably just cleared something that was lodged inside the silencer (maybe salt creep)... Any experience with this? Does the riser on the SM25 require maintenance? if so, what's the proper procedure and how often? Thanks in advance.

I never realized quite how big the 650ext was until I seen this picture from another website. The buyer reallllllly lucked out and bought the unit for about $2000 w/ a bad pump. Why can't I find any deals like that?!

The lid of the skimmer cup measured 20.5"

I think he is talking about the silencer assembly that won't come apart on the SM250. I have the same question. How do you clean it?

Run a razor blade around the seam of the cap on the silencer, either bottom or top, doesn't matter. This will break the glue joint, and let you pull it apart. Once it's pulled apart remove the foam fill that is in there. You will get a very SMALL amount of noise from the silencer once removed, but it will also keep it from clogging up again.

Yep, that's it.. Thanks!

Thank you Jeremy!

Guys I've posted this question before and didn't get it resolved. I have a 140 gallon system with a bubble king mini 180. my problem is getting this skimmer to pull steady skimmate. today my skimmer had maybe 1/2" of skimate in the cup then and hour later its overflowing. I have the skimmer in about 7" of water. I've had this problem since I set the skimmer up 5 months ago. I've moved the skimmer lower in the sump and still the same results. I'm at a loss here, I spent 1000 on this skimmer and its not working out at all. THis is on a frag system with 100 sps frags and two fish a clown and a hippo tang. I thought it was a low bio load issue but that wouldn't make sense cause it's overflowing. It can happen in the course of a hour or two. Ive played around with the water level in the skimmer body and still no results. can anyone please help me out with this. Im practically begging. Is it possible that my skimmer is defective?

Jonathan, can you snap some pics. I'm curious to see how dirty it is inside the silencer

Here you go Terry. The foam block had some salt creep on it and just a bit of residue in the bottom of the silencer. Not much of a difference in noise since I removed it, but the skimmer has returned to performing normal.

Hello everybody!!! I am glad to say i finally got myself a Bubbleking mini 200. I works amazing!! How did I ever go without one!!!

Your welcome. My foam was very hard where you see the salt creep above. That hardness was restricting the airflow in my skimmer...
