i got my kit the other day too. i am having problems adjusting. the unit is real sensitive. everytime i put my hand in the tank the skimmer shuts down. so i make a small adjustment and have to wait for hours to see the results.

You can get tubes of silicone grease from any pool supply store. The HD in my area just looked at me strange when I asked.

Not sure what your question means? I'm online right now and you can PM me if you want. :) I just sent you a PM... I misread your post.

edit - Merry Christmas ALL! It's sure nice to sleep in after all the hectic activities with family last night.

I'm sure that you can do all those things you want without any problems. My Aquarium tech actually mentioned to me this week that he prefers the ball or gate valve on the exhaust. If you do any drilling on the collection, I would recommend drilling on the bottom instead of the side, so you don't accidentally crack the cup as the acrylic side wall isn't very thin. Also, don't recommend that you leave it open and drainning continuously. What works best is when you are ready to clean the collection cup or just want to empty it, open the drain valve and drain it manually, then shut it again. It certainly helps to lighten the collection cup when cleaning needs to be perform on it... that's a BIG cup! :D

Why shouldn't it drain straight into the bottle?

What if you put a 1in riser on it so that there was always some skimmate in the cup, but the rest wold drain. I'd like to be able to skim for a week w/o having to empty.

Oh, so over the last day or so I've read all 3 million poss in this and the original thread... As soon as I finished, I called up Greg and put my name on the list for a 150 from the next batch. Should work out perfect on my fairly heavily stocked 70g (w/ 25g sump). Besides being a great skimmer, I doubt I could find any others that would also be such low watts and use up so little realestate in the sump. Looking forward to receiving it. I'm sure that is is going to beat the living snot out of the remora HOB I've been using for the last year.:uzi: :hmm3:
:fun2:

If the skimmer goes crazy and it can sometimes do, like feeding a certain type of frozen food might make it go crazy, whatever you have the drain valve hooked up to may flood your tank cabinet, your rug, or your hardwood floors with stinky nasty fish poop. :D If your skimmer cup overflows, at least it's falls back into the sump... not good, but better than gallons of water all over.

Bond007, holy crap!!! is that the BM 250? what do you feed your tank, mud??? seriously, i feed my 125 a small pinch of pellets and a nickel sized block of mysis every day, and i get an inch of the nastiest smelliest gunk in three days with the BM 250. I am very pleased with mine. Wondering if im doing something wrong as i definitely did not get those results. (only on the initial break in period, when it was wet skimming. Now the skimmate quantity is less, but the quality is alot better.)

How much are you feeding your tank to get those results?

What size PVC did you guys have to use to fit the globe valve modification to the BM250. It says 1 1/2 on the valve but mine didn't come with a piece to connect it to the skimmer and I tried using 1 1/2 sch 40 PVC pipe and it is a little too small for the fitting, is it metric or something?

Yes, it is metric. The closest I've seen that will fit is a 1 1/4" fitting, so a straight slipxslip 1 1/4" adapter is really close.

Are you sure? My 1 1/2 doesn't fit because its too small why would 1 1/4 which is smaller fit?
Not PVC pipe, but Schedule 40 PVC fitting. The straight adapter slipxslip has an outside diameter a little bigger than 1 1/2" PVC pipe. Of course, you can always wait for Greg to mail you out the missing metric PVC pipe.

ok. who has a bm200 with the new ball valve mod. i am stll having problems tweeking mine!

need some pics of adjustment and NOG of course....

I just got mine, and i have not put it on yet because it will take some sump parts moving. I own the 250 though. Sorry i cant help.

I think I must be cursed with this skimmer(BM250), not only did I get one with a leak in the collection cup but the ball valve mod came to me with a missing part...now after talking to Greg I have to wait until the next shipment comes in before I can get the missing part. Whats next?

I can see if my local dealer has that part if you want??? Maybe he can forward to you first and Greg can reimburse him later. But to get things rolling... if I were in your shoes, I would take that elbow down to Home Depot or Lowe's and see if the 1 1/4" Schecule 40 Adapter fitting will work. I believe it's a good fit and being in sump, it doesn't matter if it leaks a little. Or you can always put some teflon tape around the fitting before inserting. I think it will work... this is what my dealer is using in this photo, a 1 1/4" 45 elbow and it's a snug fit.

Just recieved my BM200 last week and after all the concerns about build quality I'm pleasantly satisfied. These things are built plenty strong enough to handle any normal wear and tear, infact you'd have to go out of your way to damage this skimmer. With the pump testing out so well and the simple efficient design I think these skimmers are going to become very popular. Why is it that the Germans are always so far ahead on skimmer and lighting design, let alone new reef keeping techniques.
