Buffalo Bills: what's the solution?

After more than a decade of poor product; it's clear the organization is rotten; probably at every management level, particularly decision makers.

Seems like everyone is interested in passing the buck and protecting their own turf. They make moves to sell tickets and not for quality.

Just think about the last ten years and the annual flashes in the pan they've signed.

I'd like to know what role Littman , Brandon and their executive staffs play in all of this this mess. Seems like things were much better when Ralph was able to be involved. Now the best they can do is a dumb Make Your Mom Proud campaign. They focus on selling tickets and other products and wresting $ from us to fund stadium improvements. Can't get a deal done in Toronto or they'd be gone already. They blame the area ; the folks in the area really deserve better. Yet when they have a chance they oppose breaking the blackout to " hold the fans accountable" Some attitude. We deserve better than these arrogant venal bozos.

I'd review the management and adminisitration at every level and wash it clean and get folks who can win and think winning and quality product on and off the field ith acommitmentto total quality in the organization. Now, it's a rotten fish. 12 years ;no playoffs, sub par play goes beyond any one player or cach or football gm. . Until it's overhauled from the top it's going to be more of the same no matter who is signed or fired.

nice summary, Tom

nice summary, Tom

I think the vast majority of NFL football fans would agree that it would be awful if the team were to move. They need a massive overhaul- like Tom posted. Starting at the top. The sooner Ralph sells to local owner(s) wanting to keep the team in western NY the better.

Drafting... The Bills haven't drafted very well, and it shows. Besides management, that has been their biggest downfall.

I tell ya what the biggest problem is. Fitzpatrick. I am a die hard bills fan, have been since I can remember I went through 4 straight super bowl losses, and now 12 years without making the playoffs. Think about how our team was in the 90s, pretty much the same exact type of team now except Jim Kelly was a great qb, and Fitz is mediocre at best. We have great running backs, jackson and spiller are both starting caliber backs. We have some good wrs emerging tj grahm, donald jones and our drafting hasnt been that horrible the last couple of years honestly. We do better in the late rounds is the main issue we need to step up our drafting in the first 2 rounds to really make a difference. Overall, if we had a qb like brady, rodgers, manning(either one) or hell even RG3(we had a chance to draft him too this year) we would be doing much much better at least thats my opinion. The defense is highly overrated this year, super mario has done squat, the secondary that ball hawked the last 2 years cant seem to get their coverage right, the LB are the real glue on Def and have been playing well. I do agree management sucks, Ralph Wilson is too old and needs some young blood to take over and get things going!

I'm not a Bills fan, but I do follow football a bit. TJ Graham has only played 4 games. I wouldn't call him good. Donald Jones has done the same thing. Nothing. And he's been with the team for a few years now.

Spiller and Jackson are both good backs, but they're not great by any means. There are 8 or more other backs that I would rather have on my team.

The Bills have a lot of good players, just not outstanding ones (generally). Drafting well in rounds 3+ is good, but if you're not drafting top tier talent in rounds 1 and 2, you're at a HUGE disadvantage. You're at an even bigger disadvantage if your team isn't good and you can't attract the free agents like NE, NYG, etc.

The Bills need to draft a top-tier quarterback and a couple offensive linemen. Next year, draft a great wide receiver and maybe another offensive lineman. What do all great quarterbacks have in common? A great offensive line. You NEED that to have a good quarterback. Focus on the defense in a couple years.

Russ Brandon is a waste of air, but Ralph loves him. As a result, everyone beneath them is either rotten, or operating with multiple hands tied behind their backs. I know a few people with high-level connections to the organization and they say that Brandon has ALL the power these days and Ralph really does little, if anything. The team does need to be sold to someone else who wants to keep it here in Buffalo and will fire Brandon.

I also agree that we've sucked with drafting and haven't had good coaches for a while. I wonder whom Nix would have hired as a head coach if he'd been allowed to open up the purse strings for the position? Nix's draft picks are a step up from the uselessness of his predecessors, but far from league leaders.

Regarding this years' specific team, coaching and the lack of skill of it's quarterback are the largest problems with the product on the field. Offensively, they refuse to stray from their game plan and refuse to adapt as games progress. They're afraid of running the football when teams stack the box when they shouldn't be. And they choreograph their play selection with formations. A 2 year old can tell whether they're running or passing, giving opposing D-lines an extreme advantage especially when they choose pass.

Defensively, Wannstedt needs a freaking lobotomy. Considering a blitz would be nice. Hell, even a line stunt or two might be useful. Been watching a lot of film on one of this years' sack leaders JJ Watt. An overwhelming majority of his sacks come on line stunts. Something we never do as a team. This whole trying to get pressure with the front 4 only playing straight-up is NOT working, and the coaches refuse to change the schemes. Nick Barnett is like a lost puppy out there in run defense, constantly filling the wrong holes. Same goes for Bryan Scott and George Wilson. I can only imagine they're coached to fill those holes with the wrong contain. And the tackling is a joke. I could get into why, but I don't have all night :).

Blame the players all you want, but when a talented guy like Mario Williams goes to a team and fails horribly, maybe it's not the talent that is the issue? Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, you have a guy like Alex Smith looking like Joe Montana every week. A very good, yet very basic quarterback now has a correctly built offense. That's what a good coach can do. You have to work with what you have, if you tear down and rebuild your tank every other year... you're never going to have a good looking reef...

I drove up to the amereks home opener with 20 other buffalonians in a limo bus. I need my hockey fix!

I try not to get excited for bills seasons anymore, can't stand seeing the same s#@% different faces every year. Don't get me wrong i don't miss a game on tv and make it out to a few. Our rep wont change until the owner does.

Maybe pegula!? Them new renovations would be pocket change.

Well the old man is half dead as it is,maybe he wants to take the team to the grave with him..Seems like a good idea at this point..

Ok, you're right Grahm isnt a "good" receiver yet, but hes def emerging and looking like he will be good. And sure there are other backs you would pick, but spiller is avg over 7y/p/c and jackson is near 5. They are solid and could start for almost any NFL team aside from maybe 5 or 6 teams. I do however agree we need a good WR in the draft, and some O line men, and also a QB. That is alot to ask for though. We've been asking for it, going on 13 years now and frankly we havent gotten it yet. They trade away to draft a rb, then trade him away for squat to trade away to draft another rb, to keep him and draft another rb...I swear they were trying to corner the market on backs at one point.

I like watching Spiller and Jackson. They're good and exciting. . Graham is fun too. I think he'll be good if someone can hit him with a deep ball. Should the Bill's back off the wildcat ;not much going on there. BTW, that wildcat play call play ,pass and interception when there was about 3 minutes left with a lead and near field goal range made little sense and nearly costs the game.
I'm hoping Merriman can make a contribution and Anderson comes back a little early. Still waiting for some consistency on the defense.

arrogant venal bozos

I don't have any interest in football and I'm not sure why I clicked on or read this thread, but this insult bears quoting. I think I'm going to give myself the challenge of using this in normal conversation some time before the end of the day.

We need a true rebuilding years. No picking up older guys. We need to follow the browns lead and start making young guys pull their weight or get new people. If players want big contracts show them the road.
