Buildup of a 210 gallon Reef

Thanks hulley, she does get whatever she wants. LOL, she even has some hermit crabs in the big tank that she picked out.

Congrats on the upcoming nuptuals!

Good luck on the stand, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. My advice is to glue the outer wood to the wooden frame as well as screw it so it is a tight, strong hold. I went so far as to rip apart the whole stand during assembly to glue it because it worried me.

hey i got those too.

ok that was the last one i promise. i just wanted people to know on RC that you arn't the only guy with cute kids.:D

LOL :D

Very cute pic. My daughter did the Aurora thing too.

Congrats on the young'n too. My wife is pushing for a second.

let me tell you, 2 is more then twice the work as one. i have no idea how that math works but it does. good luck with that one.

Chris.

If you are gonna have two, have em close :) We are done here. I heard after two, there isn't much difference, but two is enough.

I suppose I should get to work then, they will be almost 5 years apart if we busy now. :D

Welcome home the new CBB. It was WW3 when he was first put in. The PBT and Sailfin went after him. The CBB couldn't even hide, they seeked him out.

Wow, I can't believe it's been 11 months since I last looked at this. I'd love to see an update, too! Hope it's going well.

it was a shocker to see a reply to this! I let the lights get old, neglected on water changed and overall let the tank run on auto-pilot too long. I replaced the two tunze with four wirelessly controlled vortechs and after I did that a huge algae outbreak handicapped the tank. I lost a decent portion of my birdsnest and a few other corals suffered. I replaced all of the lights and stepped up my water changes as well as sisnificantly beefed up the cleaning crew. The algae is almost gone and some corals that had lost their color are coming back around.

I don't have any updated pictures to share but will try to get some soon.

Wow, where to begin...

A few years ago I switched from the tunze 6100 pumps to the vortech wireless pumps. Instead of an even swap of 2 for 2 I took out two 6100's and put in four vortechs. This caused quite the sandstorm, nearly making the center of the of the tank a barebottom. This, coupled with me just having a baby about this time totally reversed my priorities to the newborn. Nothing immediate happened from this so on I went but over time I had a few fish die and then some LPS corals faded. Even my huge leather started fading. At this point I decided to pick up my water changes which didn't help. I turned the pumps down and then after about a year and a half I decided to sell two of the vortechs. I had a few other nagging problems with the tank, power supply problems with the vortechs (I miss Roger's great customer service with tunze), top-off pump stopping etc. Eventually I lost 3 of my 4 clams, most SPS and all LPS. I lost the desjardini tang, the powder blue tang, clowns, royal gramma and one bangaii. I had serious cyano issues and the glass would get dirty quite quickly.

I decided to sell off the remaining pieces to someone I trusted could keep them alive. As of today I have the hippo tang, goby, bangaii and a damsel in the 210. The only living coral is some zooanthids and a green tip softy. I took out half the rock in November of 2009 to cook and it's still in the garage cooking, lol. When I can buy more salt and have some free time I'm going to do a massive water change and swap the rock to cook the rock in the tank.

It's been a rollercoaster and the tank looks terrible compared to the pictures above but the cyano is gone and the glass stays clean for a week or so.

My goal now is to try a FOWLR, perhaps a queen and a trigger. I might introduce some softies again to see how the not reef safe fish react but overall it's hanging in there now.

Thrl, Loved watching the build of both the 90 and this, very impressive. I would like to know if you have any pictures of how you trimmed up the tank stand? I am presently building a 90 and your tank is my inspiration. If you could send any pics my way that would be great, if not I am in charlotte and thats not far from Harrisburg maybe could stop by? Also what dance studio do you all own? I have a three year old we want to start lessons?

Hi Sinclair, I'll see if I can get some pictures of the trim work for you. For the bottom I used regular oak baseboard molding, about 6" tall. For the trim at the top of the stand I used three different pieces of trim. I used a 4"x.1/4" piece for the base, routing the visable edge and lining up the top edge to but up against the bottom of the top trim. I then used a piece of oak door/window trim that is around 3.5" with a nice routing design which lined up with the top of the 4x1/4. Finally, I used a 1x2 which I rounded off the front edge and laid it flat on top of the other two pieces of trim making it cover the plastic trim on the tank.

The pictures I take should show this better.

To see the dance studio info you can check out www.showcasedance.net.

Pictures coming soon.

As promised, here are the pictures...

The first picture shows the trim at the top of the stand which covers the bottom of the plastic trim on the aquarium. As I said before, this is actually three pieces of trim put together.

This next picture shows the baseboard trim used on the bottom of the stand.

For good measure, I've also included a picture of the trim used on the canopy.

Hey!

It's still going but in need of some serious time. I've sold off all corals and clams that I could. The only fish left is the hippo tang I got from you, a yellow tail damsel and a bangaii cardinal. I have half the rock cooking in the garage and 100 gallons of new salt water begging to go in and replace the old. It's been on auto pilot far too long.

Yeah, he's doing well. The goby died a few weeks ago. We were sad as he was our favorite. Now that the tank is coral free I plan do do an angel and perhaps a trigger.

So, a few additions have been added.

Flame angel, juvenile queen, lawn mower blenny and 2 percula clowns.

Here's to a rebuild.

Goal is an eel of some type and a blue throat trigger.
