Im working on the plumbing for the 90. I got the drain to seal but cant get the return to seal. It drips alittle water n o matter what I do. What do I need to do??
Jon, go to home depot and buy Silicone Plumbers Grease. I couldn't for the life of me stop a bulkhead leak and the guys at Glass~Holes told me to grab this stuff and use some on the O-Ring. For $2, works GREAT.
Wet vs. dry doesn't matter. The gasket should always be on the FLANGE side, (not the nut side) regardless of if it's in the tank or out.
If you put the flange on the outside, but put the gasket on the inside (on the nut side), you're essentially counting on the nut's threads and the flange's fit against the glass to complete part of the seal - installed in this manner, the gasket is only sealing between the nut and the glass, water can still leak through the threads and out under the flange. Bulkhead nut threads are straight cut (not tapered pipe threads) and aren't designed to seal. So while this works sometimes, it can also lead to leaks.
if you could get another gasket ..put one on each side ..i just had the same problem after changing my plumbing ...just a thought (thats what i did)i also put teflon tape on the threads of the bulk head near the glass...

+1. Actually, I vividly remember helping Cali with this problem, and the Silicone Plumbers Grease actually goes on AFTER the bulkhead is put in place, around the "inside" of the tank seal area. If you put it on the O-ring before you put the bulkhead in place... the o-ring will slip right through the hole causing a very bad seal.
