Well, sitting here getting ready to decorate the tree. I look up and I see the back part of my foxfaces tail. I get up and he has that marbled look like it gets when stressed/sleeps. He was stuck to my tunze. I kicked off the tunze and it came off. It had some serious lines down his side like he had been there a long time. Basically floated to the bottom with his mouth up. About 5 minutes later nose-dived into the sand (it was water flow that was moving him) Then turned silver. Down the toilet. My daughter cried a TON...A few things I'd like to say.

I have lost 3 fox's...

1st one- Ate the toxic mouths out of a bunch of expensive yumas
2nd one- Same as tonight
3rd one- Just told you

The Tunze have some of the best designs to eliminate this so I'm not sure what to do.

Is this something common with "these" fish? Say the way they swim or anything? I've only lost one ever fish and it was a carpet surfing clown.

I spent months looking for one without a spot on them as I love the solid yellow and they're not super cheap. They've always done well and it's not like I only had them for a couple days or anything. Always seems to be around the 6 month mark.

This sucks. Gonna take me forever to find another one with no spot and then dump in another $40-$60

that sucks dude... but check with BK he was getting rid of his If I remeber it looked really good

I'll check with bk but I dig watching them grow but this is insane. I have no idea how I can even prevent this. Thoughts?

I don't remember how long I had mine (longer than 6 mos though) but he was caught on my overflow one morning when I woke up. He did this for 2 days. I knocked him loose both times and after the second time he took the nosedive to the bottom.

Any one know the lifespan on these guys?

I think the good doctor has had one for quite some time.

Roy you have had yours for awhile haven't you?

Sorry to hear of your problems with this, Reggae. I have one of the non-spot foxface in my 120. I have had him over a year and a half, and I got him from someone else - I believe it was TWINPEAKS - don't remember how long he'd had him prior to that. He's been a pretty cool fish, albeit rather neurotic at times. So, they must have at least the capability of surviving some time in captivity, as mine is probably 7 inches long or more. He eats nori like crazy. Here's the best pic of him I have, it's a year old pic though:

Thanks everyone. Just kindof sucks as I don't really know what I can do to keep them off the tunze.

I appreciate the offer BK but I'm going to just wait till after the holidays and let the kids go pick one.

Thanks everyone.

Are you sure they aren't just getting stuck to the tunze after already being on their death bed. They might be dieing of some other reason and once they get to a point of weakness can't fight the tunze suction.

Very good observation. However, the 2 that died this way were very healthy and I did not notice anything wrong with either of them and had been seen swimming around healthy earlier.

I have 4 tunzes and I have around 25-30 fish in my display and I have never lost one to them. I agree with steph there probable sick or very weak. My fish swim right next to them and they can get away just fine.

IM LON 2 lost his foxface the same way. He also lost his copperbaned this way too. I think he had cleaned the power heads intake area from build-up both times this had happened. Actully I think he lost 2 different clowns to this too. But his foxface had it's face stuck to it and when he free'd him his eye was messed up and two days later half of his body was hanging out of Lon's Rock anemone.
