I recently got a Joe the Coral mini colony from a club member selling off his pieces. He said he unloaded a lot of coral recently and never cut down his auto 2 part so he had an alk spike and by the time he noticed it the damage was done. It is a trusted and long time member so it is trusted this is true. The piece was growing well prior.
Any way I got the piece for $30 and was confident I could save it since I already have a nice colony that does very well in my tank.
My question is what to do with the burnt tips? The majority show about an 1/8 to 1/4 inch white. Some still have color and look ok. Some clearly do not have tissue. Some I think do have tissue but I dont think they have the polyp at the end anymore. One or 2 ends are somewhat yellow from maybe algae starting.
My original thought was to snip all the ends but there about 2 or so and I don't want to shock it into an RTN or STN event. Very good PE except for the very ends. Coral is mostly purple I think from being blasted with halides, I run LEDs and the same coral that has been in my tank is very blue, not purple.
Thoughts?
My params are high 8's for alk usually 8.8 and 430 Ca. Right now I have it in low light at the bottom.
