butterflies in reefs

On wednesday bought a Falcula to my reef. Eating like crazy Thera+A, Cyclop eeze, Blood worms, vongoli, etc.
Until now didn't eat any coral (LPS and softs).

Please keep us updated. I've always loved facula butterflies. I have one in my FO, but was too scared to try one in my ref.

This has been one fantasic read! Thank you everyone for this thread!

This is my Copperbanded Butterfly fish, had him for two weeks in the DT now, in those two weeks he has completly demolished a few dozen aptasia. Which makes him pretty awesome to me haha! Before I bought him from the LFS I made sure he was eating, they fed him some PE Mysis which he ate readily. He is still eating PE Mysis, but also enjoys Live brine gutloaded with Selcon, Frozen Brine, and LOVES selcon soaked baby clams on the half shell. He is a very very pretty fish that I have fallen in love with, and has yet to do anything to make me belive that isn't reef safe.. but ya never know..

Here is a video I made of him eating Aptasia's like there candy.. he demolished them all out of the tank before I could get a good video, so I had to 'borrow' some small pieces of LR from the Pico tank to get a good vid of him eating them :D

My CB wiped out every aptaisa in the tank after the 1st couple of week. Now eating frozen black worm and bits of seaweed soaked in selcon and garlic. Always hungry awsome fish

Where are you getting your frozen blackworms? I've got my new copperband eating live blackworms in QT. I'd like to try frozen ones so I don't need to make weekly trips to the pet store to by the live ones.

You can freeze them well. The fish don't seem to know the difference.
I sometimes put them in those little plastic packages that mysis come in so there are individual portions. I do that when someone cares for my tank so they are pre measured.

Well, Merry Christmas to me :) I couldn't resist this one. I haven't liked the almost all muddy yellow backed ones that have been around lately. When I saw this dark backed one, I had to jump on it!

Thanks for starting this thread Lemon and everyone that has contributed. I am new to SW and have been piecing together a system for awhile now. My thoughts are always going to what I am going to put into a tank once I am done gathering hardware.

I am leaning heavily toward a reef with softies and lps and caribbean fish. Does anyone have experience with either of these two BFs in a reef tank?

Reef Butterflyfish - Chaetodon Sedentarius
Spotfin Butterflyfish - Chaetodon Ocellatus

Bummer, sorry to hear that.

I have one that looks just like that. About a month ago I bought another genicanthus from DD. I can't remember exactly how they described it, but it was along the lines of a Female masked swallowtail - very nice, blue markings on it. I put it in my tank and it has been chasing my existing genicanthus ever since - he's actually starting to change from his male colors now. Not sure what thats all about but it kinda ****es me off...

What do you guys think? Aquarium Fish International issue Feb 2012 ( last month). There is an article called Butterflyfish & Coral Compatibility written by James Gasta he stated that Chaetodon punctuatofasciatus (Spot-banded butterflyfish) are safe for stony and soft corals. Any thought?
