1628mna I'm not attacking you, Please don't make this personal. I'm stating what I feel. I charge what I feel is a fair price, I don't like to rape people over the coals. I make enough money to support my family, hobbies and live a good life. Leave my name out of it and What I do for a leaving. THANK YOU.

One thing a lot of people don't see is the effect of lower wages. If UAW lowers its wages then all the companies competing for labor will be able to lower their wages. Soon everyone will be making 25-30% less money. Less money means less buying power and prolonging the economic recovery.

So be careful what we ask for.

I feel there is waste in the manufacturing process but I blame management more than I blame labor. If people are playing cards for $30 per hour then you need to take a serious look at the management allowing this to happen.

BTW, I am a skilled trades committeeman for the UAW so my opinions are biased.

But it's clear the economy has reached a point where the United States shops out most the work to other countries. We can not compete any longer at our High wages. We need to come down to reality... Most if not all factory jobs can be done for 15 a hour. And if the UAW doesn't adjust to that we all lose. Just look at Cleveland, majority of Factory jobs are gone, replaced by over seas workers that will work for less. Even on the c-sea forum, how often do we see "I joined the unemployeed circle threads" Seems like atleast once a week we lose another guy to the LINE. The style of living is changing for us whether we like it or not. Government bailouts won't last forever.
Keeping things the same isn't working. Change needs to happen.
It's Going to get worse my friends before this economy gets better.

There ya go. Cut hourly wages so profits go up. Theres no way you can tell me that a certified electrician should only be making $15 hour. There are a many skilled posistions in factories that earn and are worth every penny they are paid, which in most cases is not enough.

Most business shop their labor to make their quarterly numbers look good to Wall Street. It is all about quarterly profitability and not about long term viability. Unbalanced trade agreements and import taxes further hurt the American worker.

BTW, I was an IT/IS manager before I switched to the dark side.

factory line worker, I should of said. Not skilled tradesman. There's many more jobs in factories that aren't skilled labor.

This is getting heated, I'm stepping out. I've said my 2 cents. There's no changing my views on it.

Its just funny that the fine people in Washington hand bags full of money to AIG, Citibank and banks that dont even want the money, but when a major industry like GM asks for money they want CEO's to step down, provide restructuring plans for approval, add goverment officials to the company to oversee.

I know if AIG went under I would not be effected, but car industries employ so many people from the plants, material suppliers, sub contractors.........

I dont think lower wages is the answer, American workers should get paid good money for their jobs. However, far too many American workers arent doing the job that is expected from them at the wages they are being paid. I get paid x amount of dollars and earn every penny. Many of the people I have worked worth dont put forth the same effort and expect the union rep to save their arse everytime they DESERVE to be fired.

BTW, if you are one of the people that doesnt show up for work on Mondays after the superbowl because you got too trashed or show up late a couple times a week because you arent responsible enough to leave on time, please keep your opinion to yourself because it doesnt count. It those people that have driven our jobs overseas.

I almost puked in my mouth. I make LANDING GEAR in a factory, for the military and boeing. My job is critical to take-offs and landings, without these you can't fly, just crash!!!!!! I make well over $15hr and would not take a pay cut lightly. The reason my job demands a high pay scale is because of the skill and ability of work involved, and not just any tom, dick, harry could perform such tasks. I deal with tenths of an inch (for the lamen 0.0001") tolerances, a friggin piece of paper is around 0.005". Makes me sick....send it over seas, we can all be butlers and maids...........
