getting back into the hobby after 15 years

thank you RC for being here, because back then you were no where to be found...

so im setting up cadlights.com 22 gallon with refuge.

SPS tank...equipment will be:

-aquaC remora with mj1200.
-neptune systems aqua controller jr.
-2 tunze nano stream pumps either 6025's or 6055's, not sure if i need to spend the extra $ on the 6055's. But i will be upgrading to a bigger tank in the next 2-4 years.
-20+ lbs indonesian rock.
-bare bottom.

still not sure if the remora is going to work or not with the way the cadlights is designed.

if i have room in the fuge after the remora install i was wondering what i will do with the extra space?

should i put a couple inches of sand in the fuge area? i was thinking about 3 inches of live sand and a ball of chaeto under the remora powerhead...is that a good idea? or is this just clutter. sounds like from what ive been reading a "true" bare bottom tank doesnt put sand or rubble in its rear sump because it cant be vacuumed up or put into suspension...

please advise

glad to have you back in the hobby! those cad tanks look really nice! i wish i would have seen those before a bought the finnex 22gal and dished out 200$ for basicly the exact same fixture. the only thing you might want 2 consider is a tunze nano skimmer instead of the aqua c becuase from what i've heard the tunze is just awsome. also two 6025's wit the return pump would put youu at aprox. 70x turnover which is about perfect for a barebottom if ya ask me

I will be tagging along on this one. I am planning my LPS tank for work and have not decided weather I am going with one of these or a DIY that I have been thinking about.

Best of luck with your SPS tank! Definetly keep us in the loop.

jim its good to be back. should i get the 6025's or 6055's??....im worried the 25's might blow water out of the tank. ive never had a stream pump before, and at 600gph to boot. on the 6055 the flow can be adjusted between 250-1500....but thats 500 bucks for the pair plus controller, kinda steep...

the tunze nano is a close second, waiting for the small cup a la roger...

DZR, ill be needing a little luck, thx.

luck favors the prepared mind

Modded MJ's would give you great flow for an even better price.

I don't beleive they had MJ mods 15 years ago

i think you would be fine with two of the 25's, when i set up my tank ( which is a 22 gal.) those werent out yet so i went with a seio 620(pretty much the same output as the tunze 6025).. and in about a week i wanted anouther 1. i have no problems with a 70x turnover and a 3 inch sandbed. i presonally would go with the 6025's becuase of the price, but it would b nice 2 put them on pulse for the random flow

edit: i just remembeed that my finnex has about an inch of clearance form the top of the glass to the water line.... so maybe just buy one 6055 and set it to pulse? in that small of a tank you might actually get the back and forth wave action goin

I bought a 22g T5HO saltyjason. i think it should be the same set-up you are getting. the lighting is amazing, you will love the brightness that comes out of it. this should be a great sps tank. i went with LPS because i wanted something more simple and didnt want to constantly add calcium, nutrients. maybe later i will introduce sps in my tank when the lps get too big. its a beautiful tank and anything you put in there will look amazing.

i havent used a skimmer yet but i hear lots of good things about the Tunze skimmer.

yeah i currently have a M3 and that baby drives like a dream! i upgraded the intake and exhaust system. Germans really know how to build a fast car!

germans build the best cars, period.

although i am liking my chevy right now...505 hp.

ok, off topic sorry.

my remora came today. the tunze nanostreams are shipping thursday from premium aquatics. and i hope the cadlights tank arrives in one piece tomorrow...

peace

Jason:

That is a great looking tank. I am thinking about tank in that size range. On the website it mentioned that you could opt for a built in fuge. Did you look at that option? Was that even available?

Wow thats a great looking tank! I really like that package deal w/ the t5's great find :)

Also...it seems reasonably priced.
This tank will turn out great and I cant wait to follow its progress! :)

they have it available with the built-in refugium. you just have to specify on the comment box when you place the order.

I would also like to see pics if anyone has them. The pics on the webite aren't that great. I did get an email from them about the dimensions. "the exact dimensions of the tank is 23 3/4" x 14 1/4" x 14 1/2". it also has a designer bottom plate with polished edges which extends out 1" on each side. The refugium and the wet-dry both share the same dimensions at 12" x 3 1/2" x height of tank"

On the surface, I think this is a much nicer tank than the finnex 30 g that everyone is going gaga over.

Jason:

Did you get the glass cover for it? If you didn't how much are you having to topoff every day?

hey guys whats up...still waiting for the tank in the mail. i want it now.

jim...the 6025's shipped yesterday

three333...yep i got the refugium model and the glass top in case i vacate want to minimize evap. im not too fond of my 3 iron (690 CB), but then who is?? been experimenting with hybrids but i dont care for them much.

alien...thanks for the encouragement.
