The snails all survived the power outage.
The algae is almost certainly bryopsis. I started GFO and chaeto and that seems to have halted the spread. More herbivores on order. Snails, money cowries, and a sea hare.
Coraline does inhibit algae. The algae almost certainly came from the red rock on the left, but that rock still has much less algae growth than the bare (greenish) rock next to it.
My tank is quiet! First, I installed an air line in the Durso to cut down on gurgle. Wound up using 1/2" OD. That helped some.
The real trick was using a splash plate in the overflow. I had used filter media like CADlights recommended, and that helped some, but caught loose algae, and caught a lot of the pods I'd added.
Had another idea and tried a splash plate. It reflects the overflow water back against the inner surface of the overflow so it runs down that surface instead of in freefall. Now the loudest noise is the light fixture fan
Here's a picture of the prototype - just a piece of packaging plastic cut from my new inverter. I'll have to figure out something cleaner later, but right now it's great.
No noise, no trapping of debris/critters, no maintainence.
I got the new fuge light mentioned in a previous post. Much more waterproof than the CADlights fuge light/Fe supplement unit. Even the bulb is potted to be waterproof. 13W, attachments are good, I like it (Eddie, you reading this?
