Cajun boy of HETMARC

I'm glad that I am not the only one to be sick of these abuses to our system. I really hate that this week, we in LA have been subject to constant interviews of "Mayor McChocolate" as he has become known down here. According to him, it is a racial issue that N.O. isn't cleaned up and rebuilt yet. Well, neither is Miss. or Alabama, but you never hear them complaining. they just cleaned up and do as much as they can!
Hopefully, we won't have anymore storms like this... at least while I'm still here!!
On a side note, there is a "super typhoon" in the Pacific that is going to make a direct hit on Wake Island. It is expected to bury the island and erase everything that isn't reinforced concrete!
At least the ENTIRE POPULATION of 200 or so were evacuated to HI. The weather is nuts in the last few years!
take care,
Bill

I can't imagine losing everything. I'm glad you fared well. I can't say that if I lost my house, my family, and everything I've worked for that I wouldn't have my hand out. People can't count on insurance & maybe to take what you can isn't a big surprise. I don't expect that my morals & sense of decency would remain in tact having experienced such devistation. How do you rebuild a life? I'm not saying that stealing is OK, but I do wish the survivors much better luck in the future. My prayers & forgiveness are with them all.

That's a nice way of thinking, but does your forgiveness extend to the person/persons who sexually abused the 7 year old girl while everyone was in the superdome? Or to the idiots who were firing guns at the rescuers in helicopters trying to save people in the days after Katrina? I talked with the crews of a couple choppers and saw the bullet holes. There was much that happened that the news never told the nation about. This was by design, so that the donations and charity would keep flowing.
There are some very good people who lost everything and you are righ in that they deserve everything that they can get. The amazing thing is, those are the ones who aren't asking for much, they are "helping themselves".

I spent a good part of my youth in NOLA and I'm not suprised. It has always been a den of thieves, cheats, and whores. That is what gives the city its character. You cant expect people to change their stripes when the police arent around. Whether their conduct is blameworthy is another matter. I second the notion that people do what they have to do. If I didnt have anything, chances are I'd be a criminal too - and a damn good one at that. Arent you glad the rich buy off people with brains by giving them good jobs?

Hi, Lane here. I have had my share of hard times. Just as character is what you do when no one is watching, it is also what you do when you are desperate. It is completely ones own decsion to steal or not no matter their situation. The USA is the most charitable nation on earth. Every major city has lots of those services. I know, I once quite my good job and worked in the trenches with addicts, alcoholics, and HIV positive people, at the Baton Rouge non-medical detox center. It was hard but the reality is most theft is not for food or any other true necessity. I lived in Louisiana for many years. I have also lived in many other places. Inner city crime is not racial. It is not financial either. It is character or lack thereof. For all of us, I would like to hope that our character would have us ask for help. Most people do in that situation. You will not starve. Especially after a national disaster wth FEMA passing out money and food.

By the way, some estimates are that 20% to 33% of all money spent post Katrina has been waste, fraud, and abuse. And those criminals who are doing this are not in the majority black. They are the white construciton establishment, the good ole boys, but still criminals. Looting wheather door to door or with a government contract is still a crime.

Best wishes to all,
Lane
I don't lie, cheat, or steal,...............................................
near as much as I used to.

Good words Cajun boy. You look what happened on 9/11 and how Mayor Giuliani stepped up and helped get going in the right direction. Then there is this bigot in NO that starts blaming everybody except himself. He is a piece of crap but maybe he is a good representative for the area. ;).

When I was living in DC and Mayor Berry, lets make that mayer berry, he doesn't deserve to be capitalized. He gets busted for crack and everybody acts surprised. Then he gets re-elected. Dumb arses. That's when I decided he has to be the perfect representative for DC.
