its to far beyond pulling is worm. I treated some smaller rocks wit peroxide. so when I break the tank down to move, ill just treat the rocks that need it then. the cotton candy came from the macro algae in the sump. all was fine for months. then one day, bam, couple spots showed up. then it went wild. now it seems to be dying off some what.

and thank you. trust me when im reestablished in jersey and working on the tank regularly. I will update much much more often...

Well you better update your location below your avatar. Lets get back up and running. What is it going to take you? Like a day? Maybe 5 hours... ??

yea ill def update the location when I go back... its a 3hr drive to the coast where I lived. I have a decent plan lined up. all live rock is goin to be submerged in a bunch of 5 gallon buckets during transport. the live sand from main tank will be rinsed and reused since its less than a year old and only 3 small damsels in the tank. the sand shouldn't be that dirty. the fuge sand im goin to be replacing since its a DSB. just don't wanna risk just rinsing it. I will have about 200g of freshly premade saltwater waiting for when I get there. corals and fish will go into a 20L tank I bought from petco for a week to wait for any mini cycle. but wit id say 350lbs of live rock, any cycle should be short to very short. after a weeks time, ill toss the coral and fish in and be on my way. then the 20L wit be converted into a QT. then im off an running. within the first month that the tank is set up again, I will fill it wit softie corals.. id say prolly the 3rd week that its reset up ill purchase a couple fish for the QT and really let this tank start to take off....

Wow quite an amazing journey from losing your tanks and house in the storm to moving to PA. I'm surprised all the equipment wasn't flooded and unusable. Tank is looking really good and I can't wait to see the progress. Really nice growth shots as well!

thank you very much... it was a change coming out here. but i knew it was short term. just needed to wait for the house to be renovated after the storm. when i return to new jersey in a couple months. the tank should really really take off then....

sorry missed a part of your post, funny thing about the equipment, in my old stand for that tank, the 55g sump sat on the bottom panel inside the stand like usual. for some reason this particular stand that bottom panel was about 3" of the floor. so when i was finally able to return to the house. i was in utter shock obviously, but the water line inside the house wasn't to far from submerging the entire sump. you could literally see the scum line that was about 1/2" before submerging the sump interiorly. so everything in the sump was saved. the same could not be said about the 40b that i also had. everything below the tank was a total loss....

Just read this whole thread. Congrats on the great comeback. Very nice setup.

thank you for that. it was a mission to say the least. not much of any updates really. the tank is just maturing really for the move back to Jersey. when i return to jersey is when i will be updating a lot more since i will be adding live stock be it corals or fish, regularly...

now that i think of it, i did redo the aquascape, ill post the pic of how it came out...

my tank and about 70% of the exposed live rock was starting to get covered by cotton candy algae. which made the tank look like hell and really made the tank look dirty. so i got 10 bottles of peroxide and went to town... i removed each rock, the ones that were covered in cotton candy algae, i scrubbed the heck out of it then poured peroxide on the rock. let it sit out for about 3-4mins each. i would then scrub the rock again. then dip the rock in a separate bin that had new salt water. i would then place the rocks in totes filled with saltwater to keep what bacteria i could alive. after all rocks were removed from the tank, i cleaned the glass and the sand bed. i dosed the water wit peroxide also to kill any potential floating spores of algae. after letting the tank circulate for a couple hrs, i moved all rocks back into the tank. love the way it came out.

def gunna have a different aquascape when its in its permanent spot back in New Jersey. but i like how everything turned out...

this is before the major outbreak, but just showing how the old aquascaping was...

and this is after treating the rocks outside of the tank and redoing the aquascape...

not much of an update, but did just put in some orders...

items coming in are:

2x 3w LED plant grow bulbs (red/blue LEDs) for the fuge
2x Blue lunar lights (to go with the 4 i already have)
1/2 gallon of BAC carbon from BRS
1/2 gallon of GFO from BRS
3x fittings for my reactor
6ft of tubing for the reactor
BRS 4stage RO/DI replacement kit
Refractometer calibration liquid from BRS
3x 250w 14k plusrite bulbs
VHO endcap pair
4x VHO bulbs (super actinic, 454, aquasun, actinic white)
200g salt box of Instant Ocean

Great recovery and glad all things worked out the best. As for the aquascape, I like the later version. Has more character and depth as the earlier version was more uniform. Cant wait to see this come together and again, welcome back and congrats on a great rebuild.

thank you sir. i appreciate it. dont really update much cause not much to show. when i return to my home in jersey is when regular updates will appear. but just letting things mature and work out the kinks before i move back..

again, thanx for the kind words. i appreciate it

So i did some major maintenance to the tank today. i did a water change. sucked all sediment and detritus out of the sump. cleaned all pumps in entire tank. upgraded plumbing return line. split my BRS dual reactor into separate reactors. changed out fuge bulbs to grow LED bulbs. and lastly i changed out all VHO bulbs and MH bulbs..

First thing i did was the plumbing for the return. Im running a Mag18 return, but foolishly running it with a 1" return line. I didnt know that its recommended from the company to upsize the PVC diameter considerably. so i upgraded from a 1" return line to a 1.5" return line with still using the 1" eductors at the tips...

old style...

to the much easier less busy return..(my hand is at the top of the pic blocking the light)

now for the BRS mod...

very basic setup. cheap powerhead from e bay to power the reactor. always wanted to upgrade the pump for the system. while i was just researching reactors. i seen a couple threads where ppl split the reactor to have them run independently off of the same pump. i was like BINGO. might as well make it worth the time and effort.

So i stopped by a friends house, grabbed a Mag2 he had laying around, jumped on BRS web page, ordered couple fittings and such. went to lowes and grabbed some 1/2" PVC and fittings... waiting for my BRS order to come in. and this is the after math...
