Calcium Chloride/Dow Question

So the gas station next door to where I work just got thier load of salt and ice melts in and they have this stuff from last year, I need to look for manufacturer but the side of the bag says "Calcium Chloride 94-97%"

I was reading about dow flake and its only 77-80%, Is this correct? If this really is an almost totally pure calcium I should buy a lifetime supply right?

Wrong. :D

With Dowflake at 77%, the remainder is largely water in the solid. They dehydrate the same product to various higher percentages, but it is no more pure in the sense we care about.

With a brand that does not trace back to Dow, I'd be wary of a bulk grade like that due to the potential for undesirable impurities such as ammonia and heavy metals.

Thanks. I walked over and looked at it. Its the scotwood industries brand. Back of bag says calcium chloride 94-97 potassium chlor 1-3 sodium chlor 1-3 water 1-2

I assume just get dow. I did a small search and they make roadrunner and the prestone stuff but can't remember if that's good or bad.

We own the station so I can prob get a deal on it but if its questionable then I will pass
