CalmSeasQuest's Blue Wall (96X30X22)

After 5 long months of waiting, my tank was finally delivered yesterday...

GLA stated the delays were due problems in getting scratch-free glass. After having to refuse the first tank, I closely inspected this one and found no scratches in the glass however - I'm concerned about the presence of multiple voids (air gaps) in the seams. The glass is 3/4"...

Right seam, about midway - 1" long

Right seam, bottom, about 3/4" long

Left seam, bottom - top void 3/4", bottom void 2"

The bottom seam is covered by trim and the back is painted black, so I cannot see those seams. When I asked about the voids, I was told these were common when using black silicone and were of no concern. If this tank were taller or rimless, I would have been more concerned, but as it's braced and only 22" tall, I thought the explanation might be plausible. Even so, it still represents ~325 gallons of saltwater sitting in my living room.

So here's the question - Should I be concerned about the seams? As this is my first large tank, I'd really appreciate the thoughts and comments from those with more large, glass-tank experience.

Thanks in advance!

I have the same seam issues. Steve supposedly ordered some wooden pieces that match the canopy and stand to try and hide them, but he also advised me of the same thing. Since February they have not grown at all.

Fantastic build!, love the black "think" tank. i had the same seam issue on my 180, I was informed by the manufacturer that since they are hand built it is normal for slight imperfections and it does not affect the structural integrity. I had them put that in writing.

You get this thing wet yet?

Unfortunately, I've had very little time to work on the tank thus far. I knew summer would be tough, which is why I ordered in December for a January deliver.

I started mocking-up the plumbing, but I doubt I'll get much accomplished before fall when my schedule eases up a bit.

The only good news is, in the interim; everything continues to grow-out nicely in the stock tank.

Greetings all,

My apologies for the long sabbatical. Increased business requirements and family medical issues forced me to put this project on hold. As I approach retirement and a probably relocation to a more comfortable latitude - I've decided to sell the tank, water treatment system and all of the equipment and supplies - most of which has never been wet.

More info to follow as I determine the best was to manage finding a new home for the tank and systems.

Thanks Corey - I just learned about Steve yesterday, very sad.

I LOVE this build and it makes me sad to sell it but this is just a temporary sabbatical for me.

Very sad indeed, too young... I think many have been looking forward to this build coming to life, but it sounds like you have more urgent priorities that need tending to. I wish you the best with the sale, and hopefully we get to see another build once you get settled.
