Can a Naso tang do good in a 180g 6 feet wide?

I have an 8x4x3 everything being said was regards to the length, nothing about the width. They do better in the ocean with virtually unlimited length being technical.

I have had 2 Naso's over the years. My first one died when my entire tank crashed in a power outage. I've had my second one for about 2 years and she has grown from very small to huge. There is no way a Naso tang belongs in a 180g. There is a good reason a 10ft tank is recommended although both of mine were in 8' tanks 30" wide.

Naso have a reputation of "healthy but then died suddenly". Anybody want to guess why? As far as I am concern, they should not be keep unless we have a huge 500+ gal

Put any fish's name in front of "suddenly died" and you'll get results.

Well it's good to know that the ONLY people who have naso's on Reef Central have 10ft long tanks. ..

No one said that. Some people actually give thought to their stocking recommendations based on their personal experience or observations. They don't merely answer "yes" to every stocking question. A person who does that has limited credibility at best.

so your advice is, "do as i say, NOT as i do"?.......

Exactly, though not with the attitude you are displaying. That is the point of these discussions. I had a Naso in a 6' tank (purchased a tank setup and the Naso came with it). It only took me a matter of a few weeks before I rehomed the Naso to Inland Aquatics in Terre Haute (in one of their huge tanks). We learn from personal experience, and the best part about these discussion forums is we can share those experiences so others may learn from them.

This is true, but reading the first few of these thread you will see the different flavors of them.
If you try to read them you will see what I mean.

I was just thinking to add the naso tang when he is fairly small in my 180g tank then when I see he is getting stressed and clearly to big for my tank I will take him out.

what are the tank mates??? imo, 180g could be large enough depending on other factors? however, when it gets large, imo, it will look poor in a 180g DT.

And put him where?

In any case, it appears that you have received enough "go for its" that you have the answer you want. I don't see any benefit for further discussion.

I have a naso in my 180. Will it be my final tank? No, but realistically my final tank will be an 8 foot tank. After initial copper treatment in qt he has done very well crusing the tank riding the waves eating algae from both my and my wife's hands. He certainly seems to be doing well. Our 8 foot tank is probably about 1.5 years away but unless he really shoots up to say 10" I think he will be okay. If I was never going to get a bigger tank I might not have purchased him. However he certainly does not swim as much as my other tank which is an Achilles. They get along fine after some initial slashing from the achillies. The naso just took it and after a couple of days it stopped.

My Lfs has a 500g display and I am close with the owner so when he gets to big I will trade him in for another fish. And so far the tank has a yellow tang,a pair of black ice clowns, blue throat trigger, and 2 anthias
