I got this anemone from a neighbor who had collected it on a trip to northern California earlier this year. He never bothered to find out what kind it is and Im curious to know what kind it is and more about it.
Looks like a trumpet anemone to me. Belongs to apitasia family. Carries a medium to strong sting, so be careful with coral placement and keep an eye on fish. Not a clownfish host anemone.
So I looked up the Trumpet anemone and it does look somewhat similar its not quite right...and this anemone came from northern california and the trumpet isnt native to that area..
That's OK. People always find different types of anemones by the beach that no one can truly identify. If it's not spreading like aipitasia and eating fish then I think it's fine to have one in the tank.
I live along the Gulf of Mexico and we often find anemones washed up on the beach after a storm. I'd say about 1/3rd of the time they are ones I've never seen before.
