Can anyone recommend some Halide bulbs for me please?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to halides but I just got my retro Hamilton kits set up and running. I have 2 175watt mogul style bulbs.

Can anyone recommend me a brand and a place to buy them for a good price. Not trying to fully break my wallet as I just finished buying a whole new set up.

Probably gonna go with 10k or 14k since I have 2 140watt VHO actinics in the retro kit as well.

Thanks.

oh btw my Ballast is a dual Hamilton old school magnetic I believe. The thing is HUGE.

The Iwasaki 175W bulbs are all the rage for great color and amazing PPFD. I am not sure where to get them, but I believe that Marine Depot carries them.

I checked Marine Depot and the Iwasaki is only in 6500k spectrum and they don't have a 175w bulb.

Is that the average price for these? $85 a bulb is a little more than I'd like to have to spend right now. Maybe after my first bulb change.

Go to coralreefecosystem, they sell it for only $72 bucks

If I have to do all over again I would go with 175 watt and use the iwasaki 15k ... it has the same par rating as the 250 watt reeflux 10k bulb that everyone is raving about

since we are on this subject... I was wondering if everyones preference for 150's would be Iwasaki also? Looking for something a little more blue but not as blue as my actinics.
Thanks,
Don

they have a hamilton 14k at the lfs where i used to live and with that and actinics the corals straight glow, i am in awe everytime i go in there

Yeah a friend of mine recommended the Hamilton 14k's as well. I might try those out since they are a little less than the iwasaki's.
