Can gas jugs be used to store RO water?

Wal-Mart has 5 gallon jugs for $5 - is it safe to use these for storing water to be used in a reef tank?

I don't see any issue with it as long as they are brand new and you rinse them out before hand. it's plastic just like any other ocntainer.

I'm not sure as I know there has been some discussion here recently about phosphates leaching into the water from the plastics's used to make the holding container.

i used to use the 5 gallon water bottles like the delivery man brings ice mountain etc

WalMart and other retailers also sell the blue jugs for water. As far as the price, I don't know. I personally use some of the 5 gallon drinking water jugs from culligan, and also my old salt buckets. I think that as long as it is clean and has never had any harmful products in it you are OK.

i was also wondering about this. i am trying to set up my ATO and looking for a holding tank for the DI water for top off where i can put under my tank. will be watching this thread.
