Can I cut this off the tank?

Hey all.. So i purchased a 48" light for my tank. I had two hoods originally with my tank, so I have a center bar piece that was used to hold the two hoods up. Would it be safe If I cut this center bar out. The center piece sits higher then where the hoods did, the light kinda balances on top of that center bar and isnt very secure. If I cut that bar out, the light will sit on the edges where the original hoods sat. I was planning on taking a hack saw and cutting them as close as I can to the edge. Then taking a dermal tool and make them as flush as possible. Then sand it so they are flush and hopefully will look like nothing was ever there.

What do yall think?

Thanks..

If the center "bar" is an original part of the tank, you can't do anything with it, as it is an integral part of the structural safety of the tank. If it is something you added, it hardly matters what you do with it...

Depending on the type of light, you may not want it sitting that close anyway.

it is original with the tank. But its just a small plastic piece. I cant picture it doing much stabling.

If i dont cut it off? How do I make it sit a bit higher? It comes with bars but the size of the light will fit exact into those groves.

"Well... ...it was a small iceberg Captain..." nough said.

I use aircraft cable and hang the lights. That does not always work for everyone, but there are numerous ways to hang lighting over a tank. Hunt around, there are quite a few good ideas floating about.

whoops i thought I posted the pics... :headwally::headwally::headwally:

No u can't cut that....it is a structural support for the front glass...if u didn't have that, the front glass will bow and eventually shatter....

Technically you can cut it but prepare for a wet floor because that's what'll happen!

Seriously though, you cut that and you might as well throw the tank in the garbage or buy a snake.

You can cut it, but be prepared to brace it. I cut the top rim and center support off my tank, but I added glass braces so the structural integrity is not comprised. If you remove it, add some other form of support.

I don't know what the light looks like but a solution would be to make some blocks for each end to raise the fixture the inch or so it needs to clear that center brace. These could be fixed to the lamp or rigged to sit on the tank.
