Can I have a blue tang and 75 clowns in a 60 gallon tank?

^^ Definitely want updates :D

A friend/LFS owner here has a rimless cube tank with platinum clowns. I think his population went from about 25 to 12 or so before the aggression and harassing slowed down enough for them to live together happily. His tank only has BTAs though.

This is also going to be used as a grow out tank for the clowns. Once the larger ones are big enough to sell, I will remove them from the tank. Depending on how it goes, my plan is to continuously re-fill with baby clowns since 3 of my pairs are now regularly spawning. I just added a few Darwin babies to see how well they do together with the Onyx babies. Look for the darker babies with the more defined second bar:

The Darwins tend to stick closer to the nems so they're harder to find and snap photos.

The Onyx not only swim in the open water, but travel from nem to nem:

48X24X12 is the dimensions of a 60 gal tank. Your tank look taller than 12 inches

Those are the exact dimensions. I think it looks taller because the sides and bottom are covered by the stand.

Amazing... I've been on the lookout for a pair of onyxs let me know if you're willing to ship down to socal!

I had the same fear but it sounds like it's not warranted. See this thread:

Since Dr. Foster & Smith had a 25% off sale today, and the bricks were included in the sale, I decided to go for it.

I will definitely let everyone know if something strange happens, but based on what people are telling me, it should be fine.

Thanks for the link. Within that thread, someone links to another thread which is the thread that first got me scared of using the bricks, lol. I will keep a close eye on your thread to make an informed decision. Thank you.

Gorgeous setup, absolutely love the FTS #6 in your 1st post. It'll be even more stunning when the little bodies color up with the white stripes.

Thanks for sharing it...now I just wish my gig can come out from the cave and be in the light like yours.

Looks amazing Derek! Thanks for sharing!

So, this is what you were getting rid of the two 24x24 tanks for. Makes sense now! :)

Not sure how to encourage it to come out. But once it does it should color up into a really nice blue gig.

Very nice D-nak! Any chance either of the gigs is the one from me?

That purple one on the far left is yours. It contracted quite a bit from when you first dropped it off, but it's eating well and growing again.

I'm loving the pics! Can't wait to see the tank in person.

Come by anytime. Your mag is waiting to be picked up. :bounce3:

What type of shelf/rack are you using? Also, what size tanks are you using for the breeding system?

It's a standard 4' x 2' black metal rack from Lowes. However, I replaced all of the particle board shelves with plywood painted with waterproof paint and added cross-bracing. The metal was painted with a special paint used to resurface laminate counters. It's a really thick paint that allows me to wipe of any salt creep. Finally, the entire unit is mounted to the studs of the wall behind it.

I am using 17 gallon Mr. Aqua tanks for the bottom breeding section. They are slightly smaller than 24" x 12" x 14" high which allows them to fit into the space perfectly. I originally bought four 10 gallon tanks, but didn't realize that the plastic trim added to much width for all of them to fit.

It is a very nice set up. My grow out system often have clowns jump out unless cover. I hope this will not be the case with your's. There are two differences between your's and mine. First, I was so successful that I got a whole lot more. I wish I culled them more, or just keep a much smaller numbers like you. Second, I only have LR in it. The babies are all about in the water column including the surface. Any chasing and they just go up. In your case they all hanging around the anemones. They zip around and dodge around each other in the anemone instead.
Looking at your video, I don't think jumping is a big problem for you.
