Can Monti Caps regenerate?

Hello, I am new to SPS and I recently received a large piece of pink Montipora capricornis from a friend and I have a question. This piece was from the lower level of the shelf and only has polyps on the outer edge. Will it eventually re-colonize the dead area or does it only grow outwards? here is a picture. Thanks.

It won't grow back on that skeleton but it will grow over top of it. There's a lot of life in the coral. If you want you can break the dead parts off so it grows a little better. It's your call. Don't worry about it though.

I would let it heal a bit and see some growth before breaking it apart for better placement. They are very hardy and a fast grower in the right conditions. Can end up being a beautiful addition to a tank after a year of growth.

Thanks a lot guys! after only 2 days, I've already noticed new growth. I didn't know SPS could grow this quick. My Clown Goby already decided it was it's new home as well.

As mentioned, just leave it be. I have an orange cap and it was stung, buried in the sand, had a few inches of skeleton showing.

I glued it to an acrylic ledge on my overflow, amd it has completely regrown
