Can PODS kill a clam?

I've had this clam for at least 8 onths and it's been fine.

Then in the past week I noticed it looked like it was stretching itself out way past it's normal range (almost like it's going to pop)! Then the little white "mouth or foot" that is inside the clam has started turning inside out. I'm assuming this means my clam is dying.

Trying to figure out what was going on I picked the clam up saw a whole nest of copepods underneath the clam's mantle. I thought these were harmless little guys, but it seems to me they are the culprit. Don't know what else it could be.

Has anyone ever heard of this? Is my clam a gonner?

If you can get some images of the clam and pods that would really help. I have a tank with clams and pods and have never seen anything like what you describe. Water parameters would also be helpful.

I'm having the some problem. I thought it was PM but freshwater dips don't help it just kill the amphipods that appear to be eating my clam and livening inside it. it started on one small spot on the clam and is getting worse at night I can see them all over the clam. I was going to try adding a mandarin or small wrasse to offset the large population of pods. but I don't want more fish(I only have 2 clowns that don't go near the clam). water parameters are fine and lighting is more than enough to keep my sps very happy. any ideas?
