Candy cane turning brown

I bought these candy canes about 5 days ago. I have them about 1/3 of the way up in the tank in low flow. For some reason a couple heads turned brownish? What could be the cause? It eats fine and blows up real big during feeding. I. The picture, there is one bare skeleton, that was like that when I bought it so that didn't die off while I had it. Thanks!

Edit: I have t5ho lighting. 6 bulbs x 48" on my 75ga...they were under led at the lfs

It looks like you didnt acclimate it properly to the T5s. Because of that, it got way to much light all at once and browned a little bit, dim the light a little woth some screen and ot should be fine in no time.

IME, browning if often a result of too little light as the population of zooxanthellae increases as the coral endeavors to make up for the reduced par. Too much light tends to cause bleaching as the coral expels zooxanthellae.

I would agree, however the lighting in this situation are t5s which are more than enough under any depth in the tank. In my past experience my trumpets did brown out due to too much light and improper acclimation

I would actually move it to the sandbed and see how it does. I have luck with mines on the sandbed to the bottom 2/3s of the tank under T5s.

Well it has been a week since I covered that part of the tank with some screen and havn't seen any difference at all. I used 2 layers of the "knitting mesh" so the top layer is covering the open squares of the bottom layer meaning it's not getting any direct light. It hasn't gotten better but it also hasn't gotten worse and it seems to be doing ok, puffs up real big especially when I drop food in the tank.

BTW, it is not in my sand bed but it is close to the bottom maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of the way up from the bottom because I found a nice hole in the rock to place the main branch into.

I may take one layer of mesh off tonight and see if I see any changes, positive or negative, over the next couple of days...

EDIT: Would it matter if the center/eye/mouth of the candy is facing the light? If you look at the picture, the ones turned brownish are the ones facing the direct light and the ones facing the front where the sides are getting the direct light are still bright green. If that makes sense...
