Just wondering if anyone knows the actual release date for the new Canon 30D. I hear late March to early April or not until May. I wast just about to purchase the 20D, but I'm willing to wait it out for the 30D.

Unless you feel there are features of the 30D that you must have, it would be an excellent time to hunt for good 2nd hand 20D bargains!

they should have called it the 20Ds (like the nikon D70s)
its not really a new model, just a jazzed up 20D

Louis has the right idea. look for a low-cost 20D or if you really want something more cutting edge, wait for the inevitable release of the 35D that cannon is already working on.

My BF has a 20D and he is totaly impressed with it.

I would do as Louist suggested and you may be able to get a great deal!

I would get the 30D... I like alot of the new features too... I have the Rebel (original) right now myself. i am on the fense.. 30D or 1D MK IIN... We will see what happens...

as i said - wait for the 35D - it will be on par with the Nikon D200. in the 10MP range.

Ok...OK... I still love my 300d.. Great shots from it like this one...

Aural, isnt the 5D more in the range of the D200. Then again there is a pretty big price difference. 10mp is nice, but only really useful for making very large prints. I dont think I'll be printing anything over 11 x 16. Aural, any info (link) on the 35D? I checked Canon's website, but no luck.

When you first start SLR or DSLR, dont go with a very expensive camera. Get like an entry level and learn from it and start to invest in good lenses.
New camera usually comes out every two-four years. A high quality lenses will easily last you a decade. Most important factor in photography is the person behind it. I've seen pretty hedious images from a 2400bucks equipment.

Just my two cents.

Thanks, this is me. I'm actually moving over to digital. I've been a film user for a few years now. Changing film speed can become a pain with film. Digital is just so much more convenient. I already invested in a few "L" series lenses. I'm no pro, more like a serious amateur.

I agree, I think it's coming, and pretty soon. The 1.3X crop sensor is the only one of the three canon sensors sizes that doesn't have a "budget" model. I think the 35d is going to be a 1.3X crop sensor in the 10-12 MP range.

Hardly, one is $1600 and one is $3200. At this time the 20D/30D are in the same "range" as the D200.
