Currently am using CN EOS 500D with 2 lens :17-40 1:4L USM and fix ef 85mm 1:1.8. Pls advice which Len should be use for taking pic. for reef tank, since I could not find out the best setting for both of them. Thks
It depends on specifically what type of pictures you're taking (full tank, fish or corals), but in general, I think I'd use the 85mm for pictures of individual corals and fish and the 17-40 for full tank shots. Of course, a macro lens would be the preferred option for fish and coral pictures, but with a little cropping, the 85mm will do fine. Personally, I don't think I ever used that particular lens for aquarium photography, but it's a great overall lens.
Spend some time learning to use the camera; i.e. get it out of Program Mode. Used properly, both of those lens out-perform the kit lens by leaps and bounds.
Lots of people assume that buying a DSLR will automatically make their pictures better. It's like buying a new stove an assuming it'll magically turn you into a world class chef.
