Canon EOS Utilities Question !!

Hell everyone,

I am currently far from home meaning I have neither my Card Reader nor my Canon Utilities Disk.

My problem is this.... the only computer I currently have access to is running Windows 2000 and I cannot for the life of me get it to recognize the RAW files on my camera. Windows will not allow me to browse the card's files without EOS utilities.

I cannot download them off of the camera.

The only free utility Canon seems to offer for download is a PTP driver that at least allows me to get my JPEGS..... but I need my RAW files! I don't have time/the resources to get my card reader or new utilities disk to me.

Please please please any help is appreciated!

Cheers,

Rosseau

I searched around a bit and couldn't find much, but you could try downloading Breezebrowser Pro- it should let you download and view the files. But if you go with the trial version only I think they limit you to twelve images at a time. I'll let you know if I find anything else.

Go to the camera menu and change the "Communication" setting. That should allow you to see the Camera as a removable disk to allow you to copy the images from the card. You still won't be able to view them but it'll get them off of the card.

Thanks guys.

The BreezeBrowser software finally did the trick - it even converted my RAW to JPEG. Definately some cool tools that I'll probably use once back home.

Unfortunately the XTi doesn't have the "Communications" menu which can be found on the XT.

I'm not too pleased with Canon right now (Windows 2000 vs. XP is a big part of my problem, however...) - they really should allow for the free use of camera downloading software... I'm glad I found this out now, before I move into the field away from the internet. I would have been screwed, trying to cram my pictures onto a few compact flash cards... I would be furious!

Anyways, thanks again for the help.

I can't contain my curiousity any longer :p Where are you?
When you get settled in I highly recommend Lightroom- I've been using it for about two months now and it's great. You'll have to be running xp though probably.

I'm guessing Yellowknife.

;)

Further North :)

I'm currently on Cornwallis Island in the "hamlet" of Resolute, Nunavut. Living at a government research station for a few days before I move out to a field camp on Melville Island - I'll be there for 2 months. I'm planning on putting the Canon to good use over there. Lots of animals and just the general scenery will be picture worthy. Caribou, musk ox, foxes... Polar Bears! If I see one I'll be shooting with the 12-gauge rather than the Canon.

Thus, being able to remove images from my 4GB's of compact flash is essential.

For anyone interested I'll post the good ones here once I'm home.

Sadly, I fear my reef tank will be well dead when I come back to it. Finding someone competent and willing to take care of a tank for this long isn't always easy - well, when you're a student who doesn't know many reefers it is. I left in a hurry and it seems it has ended up in the hands of a new LFS employee who has FW tanks only but wants to learn about SW..... fortunately the store he is working at is quite knowledgable and strictly sells high end reefs. We'll see....

That is incredible- man am I jealous! Stay safe and if you have time to post a picture now and then I'd sure love to see them.
