Carpet anem health

I bought a carpet nem (haddoni I think) from my LFS on Saturday. It had been there for ~ 3 months, and was doing fine. I put it in my tank, and it has expanded, but not quite gotten a firm hold on rock or buried its foot. It's mouth is also not tight yet. Any ideas on how to help it?

Tank specs would help (( size, lights, water parameters, what is all in the tank, etc )).

What lights was it under at the LFS?

Any pictures?
 
it was under PC's at the store and is under t5's now. I have a 40b with a 5 gallon fuge and 10 gallon sump. I have mostly LPS in the tank, with the exception of a few monti's. THere are a pair of clowns in the tank, and a few goby's I hope are smart enough to stay out of the 'nem. The lighting is 5 t5 ho's. Tank has been at 0's for months - ie no nitrate or nitrite. I'll try to snap a pic tonight.
 
What is the temp and salinity ?

Do the T5's have individual reflectors? And did you acclimate it to your lights?

How does the month look today?
 
How should I acclimate it to the lights? I had just the actinics on for the first 1.5 days. It is a Aquactinics fixture, and does have individual reflectors. Salinity is a 1.25. Temp is 76.

I am going to assume that your salinity is a type, left off a 0.

I personally keep all my Haddonis at 78-83, might consider raising the temp a bit.

That is going to be a big change in light. I like to use window screening. Basically put some egg create over the tank, and place 3 layers of screening over the tank, remove one layer each week.

Below is a pic of the anemone. I have put a screen over the lights to help it adjust, but as you can see, its mouth is still not tight.

The anemone continues to expand more each day (for reference, it is about 5-6" across), and seems well attached to the rock. It is eating as of today as well.

Any suggestions on how I may be able to help it adjust?
 
Seeing that picture, I am starting to lean towards it being an Atlantic carpet (( which isn't a natural host for clowns )).

Good that you are shading it from the lights. For now, all you can do is make sure your water parameters stay as good as possible, and make sure enough flow to keep it clean, but not so much as to disturb it.
 
hmmm... the pictures I have seen of the Atlantic Carpet Anemone shows tentacles all the way to the mouth, not the haddoni tentacle-less area around the mouth.

Anybody else want to chime in?
 
I wouldn't use tentacle less area around the mouth as a guide. 2 of mine Haddonis have tentacles right to the mouth, whereas the other 2 don't.
 
Anybody else know how to tell a haddoni from an Atlantic Carpet Anemone? I just want to be able to positively ID what I have and know for future reference.
 
mine is exactly like yours, just a little greener under t5. I was told mine was a haddoni.

I always thought the atlantic ones had fatter nub-tentacle-finger things.
 
I could very well be wrong about it being an Atlantic, but I know that it doesn't look like any of my Haddonis (( have 4 of them )). Wish I could give a pinpoint reason as to way, but I am just not thinking Haddoni. Though, the condition that it is could be effecting it too.
 
I am thinking that "bassist6108's" might have been starving, and its tentacles aren't in normal condition. They are, currently, too small and spread out to be a healthy Haddoni (( not saying that there is no way that it could be a Haddoni, but the tentacles now don't look like a healthy Haddonis, or any of them for that matter ))
 
In regards to bassist's carpet's tentacles, i have no idea.

In my experience with mine, when i first got it, it had small tentacles. After about 2 weeks or so of growing and feeding every 3-4 days, mine started to get that scattered pattern of tentacles around the mouth and the tentacles closest to the mouth have grown twice in size compared to the others.

bassist, your carpet's mouth is gaping open, mine does that occasionally but only if i recently fed it or if my tomato kicks sand all over him.

i would keep an eye and make sure it puckers up a bit.

could you post a recent picture with the flash on your camera turned off?
 
I think it definitely isn't and wasn't in the best condition. It has now moved up into the rocks, and is continuing to spread open, but its mouth still isn't fully tight. It did eat yesterday. I'm trying to continue to feed it small meaty foods, and hoping it gets more healthy as time goes on. I'm aware that these anemones are difficult to keep, and that it has a road for recovery ahead. I just hope I can help.

I will try to get a new picture up soon. It just pooped, so I'll have to let it re-expand before taking a pic.
